Bummer. Sounds like you gotta do some fixing. Don't give up on it permanently, it's a great pickup.

I'm going to send this 500T to SD's custom shop and get a new lead wire installed on it - $20.00+ shipping. It's definitely in the lead, because it ohms out on the bench just fine, but move the lead and ohms drop off and you can clearly see the ground braid is well affixed...

I can bend the lead where it enters yhe base plate and reading drops to zero...There's the problem spot...
