Ceramic 8 Pickups:

They dont have enough registers open on Sunday Morning at Home Depot-=----

oh you meant about the pickups??? yes they will be lovely

Thank you! I thought maybe one or two. I really need socks and the sweat pants with pockets. I get the dark ones and they go fine with a spring jacket.

You could install a preamp. I did that to my EVH 73 and my LP Standard. They both make drummers
really hammer.

Well, tonight I opened up the double neck and I saw the absolutely beautiful wiring job that i had done...so perfect...wires bent to follow a certain path, all separated so eloquently....and i could not bear to modify it...so the 500T is going into the S-G.

If the double neck is your main guitar, it will eventually wind up in there anyway so why resist?
Nobody sees the wiring but you. Everyone will HEAR the pickup though.

I'm an odd duck most certainly...I know...and the wiring is so complex and space is very limited in there too, I just didn't want to mess with an absolutely perfect job....I think Smitty might just understand this.

The Thro-Bak SLE-101 is a decent pickup, and although 8.2k isn't real hot, it is certainly a decent performer...and maybe hotter isn't exactly better in this case???

I am starting to think that what I am trying to accomplish tone wise might be tough - if not altogether impossible - because of where I placed the bridge pickups in the double neck - almost 1" closer to the neck than on a standard EDS-1275, which gives you a darker tone regardless of what you put in there.

But taking this a step further, i'm really starting to rethink my situation and wondering if all these changes are worth the effort???

Another thing is the constantly changing dynamics of our music and I feel like maybe I still get too caught up in the tone sometimes, maybe a bit too much.

My ear is telling me I need more gain, but I'm not 100% sure I should trust it.

Secondly, things are constantly changing in our band as we evolve too. I mean, I started out with this band playing a Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute (498T) and felt it had a good tone, but the band heard the S-G and liked the tone better, and then when i brought the double neck to rehearsal last week, they liked it's tone better still.

Yup. As you get further away from the bridge, the other string harmonics become more pronounced, which contribute to the apparent thicker sound you get. I'm not sure you can just "correct" for that with a pot.

Or a "hotter" pickup...

The 500T (left) and 496R on the right...

The lead pulled through the braid - my preference - on the 500T:

The 500T measured @ 78 degrees Fahrenheit:

Ceramic 8 magnets are used in all of the Bare Knuckle ceramic pickups to my knowledge. Not sure on the Cobra, but I think that is Ceramic 8 as well.

I think it is Alnico 8 that is controversial or not so well appreciated. BKP definitely don't use those. They have pickups with Alnico 2, 3, 4, & 5 besides Ceramic 8.

I have two Ceramic 8 Bare Knuckle pickups, a Cold Sweat bridge and a Miracle Man bridge. Both of them are very nice and clean up with the volume pot.

I think you are correct. The 500T also came in some 'V's as well. I haven't had a chance to install it yet. I think I will sell off the 496R as I prefer having Alnico II's in the neck.

Not really viable split coil sound. More of a thin humbucker sound with hum in single coil mode. The pickup on SG-1 is about 1/2 inch closer to the neck than my Faded Special which also has a 500T. That actually makes a difference in the sound. A tad fuller sound. Subtle but it's there.

First person to bring this up. When designing my doubleneck, I moved the position of both bridge pickups towards the nut - in an effort to capture some of the middle humbucker nuance - and it does colour the sound a bit for certain...

My SG Junior's P-90 is closer to the nut than the bridge humbucker on my other SGs.

The 500T surely gives a better split than the 490T or even 498T though

Of course you have to make sure that the coil closest to the nut is the one that is active with the coil split

"Of course you have to make sure that the coil closest to the nut is the one that is active with the coil split"

Never thought about which coil it is bc I don't use it. It's how it came from the factory in 1996, I guess.

I noticed a loose connection in the '+' lead on the 500T. This caused the ohms reading to drop when I wiggled the lead, so I went back to the 57 Classic + set at 4/32" from the strings.
