Line-6 Amps:

So, no experience with Line-6 amps, except for our latest demo recording. I have to admit; the sound works for us.

With my Marshalls, I always seemed to have too much bottom end and with my Blackstar not quite enough and never quite enough gain.

With the borrowed Line-6 75 watt head and 4x12 cabinet, I seem to get a lot of gain/presence and thick bottom end that still retains the ability to cut through the mix.

Our vocalist told me yesterday (candidly after rehearsal) that the sound quality - specifically the ability to hear the guitar/bass separation - was the best yet and that he noticed an unmistakable difference in the tone with the double neck as the main guitar.

So, the sound continues to evolve...

IME, L6 amps sound like a steaming pile of sh!t by themselves but sit well in a mix and record quite well.

Report back as this progresses - interested.

I agree 100%, Man..once the bass and drums kick in the tone - which I found too nasal on its own - just clicked.

I have mixed feelings about Line 6 stuff.
Some Line 6 stuff seems like it would be pretty good. Other Line 6 stuff seems to carve the soul out of your guitar’s sound.

But, the point about a guitar sound that doesn’t seem so great on its own but sounds good in the mix reminds me of a certain thread I posted featuring a certain video from a certain gentleman named, “Colin.”

Hmmm....!

I recall that post as being directed specifically towards using a mid-range heavy EQ to promote a sonic differential between guitar and bass, and not really detailing a specific amplifier...but it is interesting how the guitar - as an individual instrument - sounds almost foreign on isolated playbacks, and yet fits eloquently into the grand mix.

Of course, these are not changes I am initializing, but its intriguing to see and hear the differences.

I'm too decrepid to remember this. Can you repost the link to this? Pretty please... :fingersx:

I'm having a difficult time with the use of a line-6 for anything I had a Line-6 Vetta-2 total piece of dung I gave it away not just that I have repaired a few hundred of Line-6 amps.

The last great guitar recording in my eyes was In Step SRV

Good tone on 'In Step' to be sure.

We've tried everything available in the studio - Laney, Randall, Orange, Marshall, even Mesa and we just couldn't get what we were looking for AND eliminate having a bunch of pedals. hooked up to everything. The Line-6 was borrowed based on a suggestion by the engineer and it worked out very well for our tone on this album.

I'm really averse to pedals. I have never liked them. Anything I can do to eliminate them is fine with me and when traveling with amps, i am tired of setting up hear and discover a bad tube and have to stop and change it...
