R.I.P. Senator John McCain

I'd like to say goodbye to a true American hero and a great man. Whether or not you agree with his politics he served his country well and sacrificed more than most! I salute you and may you rest in peace!

Regardless of McCain's politics and regardless of American patriotism, I also say RIP Sir you did your duty.
My G/Father was a POW for much of The Great War and I understand the lifelong burden carried by such men.

I didn't share his politics but I recognised him as a man of courage and integrity. I felt he ran for the presidency too late; he looked elderly and in poor health even then.

One of the good guys.

He even spent I think 5 years in captivity during the Vietnam war so he knew what is was like to be on the front lines. He seemed to be one of the better politicians compared to most. R.I.P. to John.

According to Wikipedia when challenged as a new boy in town standing for office he said ...

"Listen, pal. I spent 22 years in the Navy. My father was in the Navy. My grandfather was in the Navy. We in the military service tend to move a lot. We have to live in all parts of the country, all parts of the world. I wish I could have had the luxury, like you, of growing up and living and spending my entire life in a nice place like the First District of Arizona, but I was doing other things. As a matter of fact, when I think about it now, the place I lived longest in my life was Hanoi."

What a great put-down :-)
