Well...I finally got the Princeton Reverb done. It has been re-capped, cleaned, and a speaker change.

I left all the original tone caps because they were all fine. It still has all the original tubes except the Reverb tube which was replaced with a NOS RCA 12AT7.

The original speaker is fine, but I want to preserve it.

This thing cleaned up real nice and now I know WHY people covet these old tube amps! My god what a beautiful sound! I can even make cool sounds...

Here are a butt load of pictures.

Great amp. I had a couple of the black face amps from before that. My Vox AC 30 was a 1969. I skipped over the great silver face days. I only played a couple at jams but I never Learned about them. Very very nice and have fun.

The old amps are really backwards compared with the modern stuff but I really dig them.
When you open up the back and see all the dust it does look creepy. The signs that say you will die if you touch anything. A cold fear and thoughts of black lung come to mind.

Very cool pics. Carbon Comp City! Amp looks likes it's in really good condition.

Speaker is interesting... Tell me more!

Well...I was worried about killing the original speaker and I want it intact for posterity sake.

So I did some Google searching and stumbled on a thread where a speaker shootout for this
exact amp had been done. They had conducted a poll across at least 6 forums and this Weber
won out and pretty handily at that.

My amp tech also has the speaker in his Princeton Reverb and recommended it. I have to say
it sounds fantastic and I got it slightly used to an outstanding price...

...and to your second post. Yes, there is a modern 3 prong, properly grounded chord and the
so called "Death" cap has been removed.

You could be right, but the Weber sounds fantastic!
I bet it does. Weber have been around, and have been making quality speakers for a long time.

I have a Weber 12" Blue Dog (ceramic) in my modified Carvin Vintage 16. The amp's Voxy vibe and this speaker match up very well. I would like to try the alnico version one day.

The amp from that era on for a few years was the Fender Concert. I borrowed one from a guy that lived in my building in New York. It was a 12X1 and very powerful. I looked to buy one but there were not many around. I found one that needed too much work and it had the same layout as my Fender Ultimate Chorus. That was a very loud solid state amp with a 2X12 speaker set up. The Concert model I could not come close to picking it up.
Did these Concert Amps have a good review?

Weber make great speakers. I like that they offer variations on each model, early breakup, late breakup, brighter etc. Depending on the amp, I like alnico speakers, love the way they compress when pushed.
Congrats on getting that amp up & running properly. Cheers

Edit: I should have said this when I first posted, the Weber 8A125 that I put in my 5F1 champ build took something in the vicinity of 40 ~ 50 hours to break in properly. Maybe the fact that its a 20 watt speaker & the amp is only putting out 5 watts had something to do with it taking so long. Great speaker though. Cheers

That is awesome!
Vintage guitars dont really ring my bell.
Vintage amps, especially the Fenders and some of the Marshalls I know something about really do.
