Cover Song Madness:

My goal, in doing all these seemingly meaningless covers, is to have FUN, learn all the ins and outs of Audacity, find out what sounds good "on tape" and experiment with thosr techniques, with an eye on becoming a somewhat skilled producer/engineer in my home studio.

As I've said all along, I don't consider myself a vocalist - I only sing because I have no one else to do it. So, with all disclaimers in place, time to move on!

For my next cover project, I'm thinking of pushing myself both vocally and creatively.

I have been considering "Lick It Up" by Kiss, mostly because I love Stanley's vocal phrasing. I also considered "You Shook Me All Night Long" as a secondary candidate.

Suggestions??? Thoughts???

Again, my first choice would be "2018 It's Coming Home", but presuming that wouldn't push your vocal range enough then how about The Cult?

Good choice!

Gotta say, neither the Kiss or AC/DC songs are from an era of those bands that I have an ounce of respect for (though I know people love them), so I personally couldn't get too enthused about them. For some reason, this came immediately to mind when I read the OP:

Oh yes!

Also, "Love Song" by Tesla is another that has a lot of musical opportunities!

"2018 Its Coming Home?" By which band???

Songs coming to mind....

"T.N.T" - AC/DC

"Get it On" - T-Rex

"Mama I'm Comin Home" - Ozzy

"Holy Diver" - Dio

"Dirty Deeds" - AC/DC

Wash It All Away" - 5FDP

"4 Those About To Rock" - AC/DC

"The Stroke" - Billy Squire

"Out In The Fields" - Gary Moore

How about a vote???

TBH, not a setlist I would want to sit and listen to (too many "classic rock" station staples), but since I don't think that is the point of the exercise these seem like a good start, even if there's not a ton of variety.

Agreed. Just trying to explore my capabilities and strike a balance of guitar and vocal work.

Hmmmm....Vocally, I am much better suited to Eagles covers, but I'm just thinking about the songs as a whole as far as suitability goes...

And this one...always loved it, but I hear it (in my head) absent all the piano lines...and with bone crushing guitar work, then, replacing the piano solo, with a quasi classical style solo - slow and melodic on electric - then pounding back into the heavy sections again...

So, this morning, I cut a 1 minute vocal clip - acapela - just to see if my vocals would "fit" this project. (I added some reverb and delay to make it at least tolerable to the listener) A few vocal errors, but this is not me singing in anyone else's character (such as Lemmy, etc.) and I would like your input on whether or not this vocal style would work with my concept for this song.

READY FOR LOVE - VOCAL CONCEPT TEST
