So a couple of weeks back I'm on eBay, checking out what is available in guitar strings.
I saw a store in Sydney was selling Vintage Reissue Gibson strings. The blurb says they are made to the same specs Gibson made in the '50s... I normally use 10s on my guitars, but decided to try out a set of 9s.
I put them on my 2011 SG Special, and they have given it a really bright, clear tone that I didn't think I could get with the 490r and 490t pickups. It's really given the SG a new voice. The highs are very clean and clear, and the lows are warm and rich. The mid range seems to be similar to what it was before - I may have to tinker with amp settings and see what happens.
All in all, for AUD $14 including postage, I'm really quite impressed. I normally use standard Gibson Brite Wires 10s, but I think, at least for the Gibson SG Special, that I've found some strings I actually really like.
Anyone else tried the Vintage Reissues? Opinions?

The description sounds interesting. The US price is $6.99, which is relatively inexpensive. At that price, I find it hard to belive they deliver the quality construction they claim. That said, I am willing to take your opinion at face value and give them a try.

Gibson Strings re-invents the modern guitar string. We go back to the days of using only the finest pure nickel wire, slowly wrapping it over the highest quality Swedish steel "hex" core for maximum strength and stability. The warm, full tone gives your guitar a solid new voice. These strings show why we are still the favorite with top players around the world! Vacuum sealed for freshness.

Most of the music stores around here (Perth, Western Australia) seem to stock Ernie Balls, Brite Wires, and other "standard " type strings.
I have never actually seen the Vintage Reissues for sale in a retail store. I'm glad I decided to give them a try though.

Yep, I probably will too. Thanks.

I have tried them and liked them for round wound strings. no complaints I have just gone all flatwound or halfwounds

Rock on VINTAGELY Alex!

Was playing a little swamp rock on the Gibbo after giving it the new strings... Damn, it sounded so clean, it was more spring water rock! (Just messing around with the intro to "Southern Dreaming" by The Sheepdogs, a rock outfit from Saskatoon).

$20 isn't too over the top for a set of strings... My wife pays between $50 and $60 for a set of 5 reeds for her bass clarinet, and often can only use 2 or 3 of them, as occasionally the cane is too green or too dry. The only benefit is she can claim them back on her tax return as she requires them for her job as a clarinet teacher!

For my other electrics, I use Ernie Ball and Fender strings. But, my SG came from the seller with the Tomastik strings, and an extra set. I instantly liked these strings. They're a bit too pricey to use on all my guitars, but I don't mind using them for just two.

her job as a clarinet teacher!
YOu have opened my eyes-------I must find in 2017 --- one (or more ) students--- I must claim said income and all guitar parts and gear could be a TAX WRITE OFF!!!!!!!!!!

SO o.k.

I am doing online "lessons" guys---- who wants to join? --- hey Hackmaster--- I will take Luthier Lessons from you---you take bass lessons from me ;) Savvy?
then all gear is TAX DEDUCTABLE as we will be "teachers" --- right??? aint it --- right ???

RVA---I am also curious about my Duedist Priesthood and if I can get some write offs there as well????? What say you LegalityMeister?

I tried the Gibson nickels. They were ok for the money. the guy at Sam Ash told me they put these on all the Gibsons in the store. Not that I don't believe him, I just don't care.
