Zeppelin

I watched that a couple of weekends ago.
They mention they were not as much the party animals as the legend suggests.
I have read elsewhere touring was really exhausting for Page; it took a big toll on his health in general.

The tubi channel has a number of rock docs, there is a good AC/DC one too.

The copying thing, for whole songs, I guess they could have given more credit to the original. I think they had "inspired by" credits.

The copying of licks has been a standard thing. I hear Albert King in a LOT of things I listen to, SRV, Clapton, etc.
Stand on the shoulders of the greats before them.
I dont think any of those guys claim otherwise.

As I recall--- not that I was THERE but, before records-- radio and INTERNATIONAL MUTLIMEDIA--(and RECORD Agents) -songs were copied (shared) ---and played-- and carried from town to town --say by a Minstrel--who TAUGHT a minstrel -- or by one who HEARD and copied all or part of the first guys tune (that he probably copied from the guy 3 towns over) and so on.....Im not defending direct STEALING---
but -- it was what they DID -- that made what we CANT DO NOW ---uhm....possible? if that makes sense?

Did Elvis--Cream-- Zep-- Stones et all not OPEN EYES (and ears) and SHED LIGHT on the BLUES in a GLOBAL way that had never BEEN done?
before they stole the blues--- England and Germany and Europe were not PRIVY to the Southern BLUES
Did BB King and Muddy Waters and ALL those guys not become MORE POPULAR (and wealthier I am sure) AFTER the British invasion-- and people said HEY WHERE DID THAT BEAT COME FROM?!?!?!?!?! and they went and they found it and it was GOOOD!

I could sit and find online "proof" of all my THEORIES above---(maybe) or maybe not----but it was a VERY different time ----
LEts be honest some other Southern Performers where shaking their hips and gyrating around on stage ---in gin joints of the South--it took ELVIS to make it go GLOBAL --and in doing so brought everyone along for the ride.............................

Im not trying to be racist---(because I am 110% NOT) ---but in those times -- the delta blues would not have gotten out of the Cotton Fields and DELTA (as soon) had it not been for thievin' white boys stealing it and claiming as their own--- there I said it --Elvis and them COULD get the media attention-- and corporate backing--and airtime to promote ...........that which the originators couldnt ---and it all grew and it all evolved.....
and now you cant even play 3 bars of a Beattles song on youtube OR YOUR BANNED!

I have always loved Led Zeppelin. I continue to love Led Zeppelin. I've purchased their entire catalog 5 times: on vinyl when I was young, on tapes when I got my first car, on CD when they were first released, the 1993 remasters and the 2014/2015 remasters. Then throw in all the extra stuff along the way like How The West Was Won and Celebration Day, etc. and it's been a fairly lengthy love affair.

I hate that every conversation about the band now has to include the 'did they or didn't they' angle when it seems pretty clear that, at worst, they were doing exactly what they people they had been inspired by did all the time. If a blues guy took direct inspiration or a bit of a song to use here and there from another blues guy its called "homage" but when LZ does it it's "plagiarism?" Nah, not in my ears.

I had to buy a NEW Led Zeppelin shirt last month--- wore out the last one-----
I have had at least 1 Zep garment -- patch-- decal --- SOMETHING in my closet since 1979 when I got a "hand me down" from my teen aged Neighbor--- :)
yeah------Im a fan.
I even Plagerized ZEP---- and got an "A" on my Art project in high school----
it was a 24 x 36 reproduction in full color of this ------------

I too LOVE Led Zeppelin and I too have purchased their entire catalog at least 3 times. But I, unlike most agree that they flat out stole some of their music.

The plagiarism is blatant and undeniable. The reason most people who complain about it do so is because Zeppelin refuse to credit where credit is due.

This has nothing to do with travelling minstrels or inspiration, it has to do with people profiting from others work and not even giving credit...

Zeppelin were not the only ones and we all know that, but that doesn't make it any less offensive.

There are some really great videos on YouTube showing the comparisons and they are there and undeniable. I could post them, but see no reason.

Credit was finally give to Jake Holes for this one in 2012.

....after thinking about this I am going to link the YouTube comparisons.

Gball, you defend Gibson copyrights to the bitter end against the Chibsons. Why then is it okay for the Zeppelin infringement of these other artists?

well....interesting
but to play devils advocate
-- as Studio Musicians for years--sought after even--very praised-- -- how many records did Page, and Jones put there talent/work/skill into with little or no credit?
How many stars rode on their coat tales? that still havent admitted or credited them?

Zep launched STADIUM ROCK --- 100,000 seat arenas even the Beatles werent hitting the gate numbers Zep did --- HELL they got more people in TAMPA FL. -- in the middle of HIPPIE HATING SWAMPNECKISTAN --

Promoter Sid Bernstein said, "Over 55,000 people saw the Beatles at Shea Stadium. We took $304,000, the greatest gross ever in the history of show business." It remained the highest concert attendance in the United States until 1973, when Led Zeppelin played to an audience of 56,000 in Tampa, Florida.

Beatles didnt make the Guinness book for attendance................................................nor did any of the people Zep plagerized.........
In 1977, Led Zeppelin embarked on another major concert tour of North America. The band set another attendance record, with an audience of 76,229 at their Silverdome concert on 30 April. It was, according to the Guinness Book of Records, the largest attendance to that date for a single act show.

They were paid and did it willingly...not a fair comparison at all.

I'm not trying to take away from what they accomplished. All I am doing is responding to the comment that plagiarism comes up when the band is mentioned.

It should not and I believe does not define them, but it happened and to deny that is just pulling the wool over your own eyes...

The Beatles quit touring at the height of their popularity because they felt it was worthless to play to screaming fans who couldn't hear them.

Also the Beatles as we all know were a heartthrob boy band to the girls of the day.

Zeppelin had us all following and loving them, which I still do regardless of the plagiarism. I just wish they would have fessed up to it. The denial is
ridiculous and foolhardy. It also makes them look even more culpable...

I loved them so much in High School that I went and sat in the parking lot of the arena for two days when they played
Cincinnati just to be a part of it and hear what I could from outside...so this is not hater talk here...
