Working on a new song

Playing outside your normal genre will pay off with unexpected benefits when playing your normal genre. I find I get stuck in a rut. Learning a new song in a different genre sometimes lifts me out of that rut. I get ideas I can apply to my genre. I mostly play blues and used to stick to minor pentatonic. Learning a few country and jazz songs got me playing a mix of minor and major pentatonic with some out of scale passing tones thrown in.
