I can recall looking fondly back on some pieces of gear from the 1980's. I've often commented on how good some of these things were.

Last night, I got a chance to play through a JTM45 full stack. I am so glad I sold my pair. Doesn't sound good unless cranked, no reverb, just very one dimensional.

I remember a buddy in the 1999's had a DOD VGS-50 multi effect pedal and I recall thinking how awesome it was.

I wonder what my perception of that effect would be like today???

Have you recently strolled memory lane with some vintage gear???

I’ve had the same experience with old Marshalls. They only sound good when they’re loud enough to turn your bones to dust. I think it was the realative lack of competition that made us think they sounded so good. The Laney AOR series from the ‘80’s killed the Marshalls IMO.

On the other hand, I have found the guitars from the period to be pretty great.

Gball, I have an AOR 50 watt Pro Tube Lead 8 knobber I need to fix some wires on that stupid mouse got to.

Can't wait to have it running at full capacity.

I had the AOR 50 for a few years too. It took the place of my 50-watt JCM-800 and was a better-sounding amp in every way. Built a lot better too.

gball, my AOR is a bitch to get under the board ( actually on top of the board) between it and the chassis to access the ends of the chewed wires to de'solder and replace them. The wires are very stiff and I hate to unbolt everything to removed the whole board from the chassis just to fix the damage.
