What is your go-to guitar

Some of you like Strats, Teles, SGs, Les Pauls and the list goes on. What is the guitar you play the most? More importantly, why do you prefer this guitar. Is it the shape, the sound, the feel, the price, the looks? What makes it your go-to guitar?

Mine is my Epiphone G-400 named Burla. I own several guitars, but Burla is the one that always just feels right when I'm playing her.

My 2010 SG STD,
it's just so easy to grab and jam. The feel of the neck, the effortless play, seems nonexistent on your shoulder. Just makes me smile when I strum it. It's surely one worth running in a burning building for. Love it!!!

My Les Paul.

Why? First and foremost, the tone. Nothing sounds like a Les Paul, not even things that are really close like a PRS Singlecut. There is magic in that tone that only comes from a LP.
Then, they just feel like home to me - I have been playing Les Pauls for 40 years now and the feel of one is so natural that it's almost as if it isn't even there. Any other guitar takes me a few minutes to get used to when I first strap it on.

My 2014 Gibson Derek Trucks Signature SG. Pickguard added and it has a set of Bare Knuckle PG Blues pickups. Because I want it that way. I simply love SGs, and especislly this one. I like the 60s neck, the cherry color, the Lyre cover, the sweet tones... I played it for a couple of minutes in the shop, and it really spoke to me. I'll keep it until the day I die.

Basically my main go-to guitar is my Gibson SG Special w/ ebony fretboard. I've enlisted it in the army to fight against bad music coming out of the radio these days.

Lately I've been playing my Hagstrom quite often. It's a well built and compliments my SG. This is a must have guitar if you are a collector like me. It can handle any style of music and you can play any note almost flawless. It has a 15" radius FB which makes bending the strings a breeze without fretting out.

My 2006 1952 AVRI Telecaster is another go-to guitar that I sometimes can't put down. Gotta have a Tele in the collection.

And I can't forget my beloved Yamaha RGX Custom which I had since high school in the eighties. It was just over $2,000 at the time. This guitar has the widest range of tones w/ a coil split for each humbucker and this guitar plays like a dream.

I'm fickle... *grins

And I'm blessed with great guitars. Right now my #1 is my Martin XC1T. It's my pick it up and go guitar, especially in the winter.
My other two acoustics qualify as vintage, so I don't take them out into the howling winds and dark winter nights... I named this Martin: "Number 9."
Number 9 March 01-2014.jpg
The bass that I rely on most now is Raven, my ex-Squier "Rescue Bass" which I have rebuilt with good quality parts and gotten
set up perfectly... once again, I'm willing to take this one places that I'm not willing to take my old '66... harsh weather and
unknown venues ahead? I'll grab the Raven Bass. This one gets the job done, without fuss.

But I don't think the OP was really asking about acoustics and basses... was he?
Nobody else so far seems to have thought so. But these are just the instruments I grab when I'm headed far down the
road, to play gawd knows where, on a stage I know nothing about... These two are 'working man's guitars..." nothing fancy, no heavy
insurance policy... no pedigree, no binding, no nibs, no problem. Just excellent tone and playability, and the ability to stand up to
unknown conditions, and predictable weather tantrums. If we're going to be part of a larger program, where quick change over is
important, or if we're going to play on a small stage I've never seen, I can play a whole concert with only these two,
and my bass amp and my "acoustic' pedalboard.

But if we've got a chance to spread out a bit, and if we've got time to set up, I'll bring my beloved SG special as well, and
have three guitars onstage. This is Luna in action:
Luna_Flint.jpg
She's the Queen of my music room, and the best guitar of any kind I've ever played.
I dally with other guitars, but she's my number one. Think of #9 as a Knight, and Raven
as a Bish-hopper... They venture places the Queen must not be risked.

If I'm just going to sit down in my own private time and play around with something, I usually choose this:

If I'm preparing to play an event, I usually pick the guitar I want to use for a particular song and use only that guitar when I practice the song.

If a song is of a general humbucker-ish nature and I can't make up my mind, I'll usually default to this for the upper fret access and pleasing Maestro action. Plus, the sound from the '57 Classics covers a lot of territory.

But, I may use one of my others, depending on my mood.

If upper fret access is less of a concern, and I want a bit more growl (due to it's different pickups), I am increasingly likely to choose this, now that it's vibrato-fied.

However, lately, the HB-30 has been getting more attention. It hangs very comfortably on me and all the controls are positioned in a very instinctive location for me. The Seymour Duncan '59s are also very versatile.

Honestly, it's very possible that once I Bigsby-fy this one that it could end up being the go-to guitar.

If a song suggests single-coils, then, obviously, I use this:

#1 -- 2013 SG Standard, Seymour Duncan Saturday Night Special pickups.

#2 Used to be my 2014 Firebird V with Chris Klein pickups, but that may be changing. I'm digging the JB Firebird I that I just got. It may become #2, it's fighting for #1.

Of course, if I want to say it emphatically my 2016 Les Paul Studio with Seymour Duncan Whole Lotta Humbuckers.
