Slightly above the knees would be proper for metal.

Electrics would be like @Session 5 , middle to high. Acoustic I tend to be closer to high.... just not clear up into my armpits.

I wear mine around midway between the two examples shown. Generally I wear it so my belt line is around the middle of the guitar.

Depends on guitar. It is easier to solo with it higher up as per EVH and Rik Emmett. But something about a LesPaul example that feels good slung lower. Not Ramones low.
