Remember Mark Barnett? Another Illinois boy. Was at a local track doing my thing in the “B” group and he was announced to be racing in the “A” group. Not saying he was good or anything…. But pretty sure he lapped the field in a 15-20 minute moto. He went on to sign with Suzuki as a factory racer and won a ton of races at the national level. Won a few championships in both 125 and 250 classes. That’s my name drop claim to fame.

They did. He was still an amateur when I saw him race. He rode Honda 125s at that time. 1974/75. I think I was 20 at the time… so he’d have been 14.
I had three Honda’s on the 70s. A 72 SL125 trail bike. The 74 125 Elsinore I raced. And a 74 550 street bike. Sorta wish I still had the two 125s. Not so much the 550.I had one of these in my late teens. Bought it at an auction sale for $50
All my friends had real dirt bikes and would leave me in the dust.
