Waiting in the optometrist seat and I swear I can see thru walls right now!

So all the optometrists in my area are booked up until later in the fall. I managed to sneak into a last minute cancellation at an eye doctor I hadn't been to before. They checked my glasses, then dilated my eyes and then gave me a pair of contacts to try on. At first? They seemed strong but I thought maybe it was because they JUST dropped the dilation drops in my eyes about 8mins earlier.

So I read the chart on the wall from the seat and could read every single line. Yet when they walked out of the room and things settled in, I couldn't even read the text on my phone in front of me. I had to hold the screen back about 3ft and I realized the mistake: they accidentally gave me the glasses strength vs the contacts strength, which is typically a lil lower.

In texting this out right now with my arm extended all the way with one hand and basically have x ray vision right now until the doc comes back in and I explain the situation lmao hope autocorrect is working

Typical luck I have

So it's a lil from A and a lil from B.

Dilation is wearing off and I can see better. But the strength was indeed dialed up pretty good: it was -5.50 on the right eye and they had me at -6.00. Left eye was -4.50, they had me up to -5.50.

Had some goofy wall-eyed vision like that dude in Hot Shots! But hey, could see hairs off of an ant's ass with them!

Hopefully it all works out and they get you what you need.

I’ve been fortunate. I’ve worn glasses for distance since I was 10. I’m 68 now, so kinda used to them. In all those years though, I’ve never needed any correction for reading. Still don’t. In fact…. Typing this on my phone as we speak….. no glasses.

That's me in a nutshell too. I could theoretically read a book or my phone without my glasses but I can't read a soda can label 3ft away lol I'm pretty well blind as hell without them ( they got my driver's license tagged with a restriction over it too). "Moderate Myopia" they call it.

My right eye actually improved this time a lil, as it was -6.00 And is now -5.50. Left eye was about the same at -5.00. My contacts are usually a little weaker in strength to the glasses because they're lying right on the corneas vs sitting on the bridge of the nose

My license did not get tagged when I turned 16 and got my first license. When I renewed it 4 years later it did get tagged.

I was 17 when I got my license ( never tried before then for some reason lol) and before they issued them, the lady behind the desk asked how long I wore glasses ( 9 years at that point). She never administered a vision test, just asked to see my lenses and immediately stamped RESTRICTION 2 on the license which in WV is "Corrective Lenses". I laughed and said "They're THAT bad huh?" And she goes " Don't ever get behind the wheel without them"

But hey, it's not the worst thing to have on a license here. If you see anyone with a RESTRICTION U code, that's a "sexual deviant" according to the traffic handbook lmao
