So let's start with something real - playing this one with the fingers ain't no guitar picking:

My first attempt toward electric violins. Fun to play but not the real thing: heavy, noisy, strange shape of fingerboard. That's why i built The Grebe:

I ran the Yamaha through a low pass filter of 400 Hz and a Boss OC2 octave.

That is gorgeous......

As old as the violin is, it gives it a "new" look. I have always loved hearing experimentation of traditional or classic instruments with new sounds.... Like harpsichord in rock, bagpipes, flute, etc.... Do you know if the violin has been crossed with say distortion or chorus...?

I tried. With my Vox Tonelab ST. The Yamaha is a bit trebly, even with the low pass. But with a suitable equalisation it might be fun.

i know nothin of Violins but yours looks alot better than that other one. i do have a Epiphone Viola Bass guitar but thats as close to a Violin ive came to :)

The Kennedy CD must be somewhere in my chaos. Here another well known player: Jean Luc Ponty. Here he plays Zappa:

BTW: both Kennedy and Zappa play MIDI violins, afaik. But not excluseively.

Lady at church plays hers thru a Boss multi effect pedal. It's pretty cool stuff.

SO that makes it a fiddle................

Way back in early 80's I mixed the sound for a folk band.
For a little time we had a violinist from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra playing "fiddle", more money and cash in hand from us.
