Using Delay To Mimic Fast Decay???

When i record at home, i love the rapid, natural decay that i get in my small, hardwood floored room. Im generally recording the amp, from 3-5 feet away, in order to get that "room ambience" effect.

Its kinda hard to explain, but its something i really like and I'd like to emulate that live.

How could i replicate that room ambience effect with my Boss DD-3 and what kind of delay times would i need to start experimenting with to emulate this effect???

Delay little bit goes a long way I have a few rack units PCM Lexicon Yamaha Eventide
never liked the delay stomp boxes until the Eventide Micro Pitch I can detune left and right channels thick fat sound
I run a dry signal from my Friedman buffer bay to amp one then amp 2,3,4 sounds massive
amp one 100 watt ODS amp two and three 50 watt ODS amp four 1983 Fender Super Champ for a touch of reverb
4 clean channels 4 overdrive channels mix and match live I just use two 50 watt ODS amps

EVH uses two Eventide rack units the Micro Pitch does the same thing in a stomp box now

Have you thought of using a reverb pedal? I'm not talking about the single reverb control on an amplifier. An actual reverb pedal provides more control over reverb modes, decay times, mix level, etc.

Now, it is true that delay and reverb are associated effects and you can mimic reverb to an extent with delay. But, if you have access to a good reverb pedal, it may be worth a try.

This is the kind that I use on my actual pedal board. There are others made. Some are more exotic and provide even more features, but this has always worked great for me.

I agree 100% with this. I use a Boss RV-6 reverb for just the effect you describe. It's a lot more versatile for subtle ambience than either of my delays (DD-7 and DM-2W). I use those for more "obvious" effects.

Yes. I got one.

Can you post your settings for room ambience???

I didn’t know you had a reverb pedal as an option. Your BOSS RV-6 has a Room and a Hall setting parameter. It should be pretty easy to tweak from either of those two choices to what you like to hear.
Thanks for that tip!!!

I've only ever used it for ambience behind a solo, like in Hotel California. I never use reverb or delay on rhythms, but I do want to add that room ambience for my own benefit. I think I play better when I am happy with my tone.

I hate moving this board, but I love having everything on the palette.

I need to get up your way and get that 2204, but my schedule is not very flexible these days!!!!

If I remember correctly I use the Room setting. Works great through the loop.

The only things in my loop are the delay and reverb. Everything else is in front, including the chorus since I switched to the CE-2W - that thing can be set to sound like a Rotovibe in front of the dirt boxes, which is how I use it.

When i worked put the order of FX for this board, i rented out Primo Rehearsal Studios in Riverside for 3 days. I tried numerous combinations.

My chorus, reverb, secondary EQ, delay and volume pedal are in the loop.

The noise suppressor is up front and in this arrangement, ot doesn’t cut off my delay tails, even when set to slam shut.

I used to have chorus in th eloop, but when I switched from the digital to analog I ended up preferring its weird swirly, gritty thing out front. It does a string Robin Trower vibe that the digital one could never pull off.
