Tortoiseshell Pickguard Repair Or Replace?

The top layer of my tortoiseshell pickguard on my Jaguar has peeled off! Although the guard looks fine i've noticed the red pigment rubbing off on my hand.

Can I spray clear laquer to seal it again? I'm looking at a custom cut replacement at £50 but would rather see if I could save the original first.

Any thoughts folks???

Perhaps nitrocellulose lacquer, since this is the same material that the pick guard is made from ? However 50 pounds for a pick guard seems unrealistic, excessive, far beyond what would be a fair price.
Fender should have the replacement parts, $49 = 38.65

Thanks, sounds like a plan regarding the laquer. :) (y)

Unfortunately however, most aftermarket pickguards don't fit the Squire Vintage Modified Series hence why I was going to get one custom cut from the original. There are also 3 slightly different configurations of pickguard as the VM Series jags were made in batches. The hole spacings are different. It's been such a pita trying to get one that fits I figuired i'd best repair it or get it custom cut. I kind of want a tight fit as well in relation to the chrome control plates.

Mmh, unfortunately the lacquer only highlighted the fact the red pigment was wearing off. Ended up getting the custom cut guard after all. Glad I did, fits perfectly and looks the business. :) (y)20240627_155615.jpg20240627_151116.jpg
