My grandson put them on a Ibanez double cut, by just slipping them on no silicone or anything else.

Then it (silicon) needs to be black

If you use Black Max, you'll get a darker tone.

When I added covers to my SG p/u (4 years ago), I read a lot about the pickups becoming microphonic. Videos said to add masking tape to the top and then silicon on that. I then used shielding tape to ground it to the back of the pickup.

Using this video's technique would have been a heck of a lot easier!

I'm fine with soldering in general. I've watched a million videos and have a lot of experience. It's just that those humbucker base plates work like a heat sink and it seems impossible to get them hot enough to take the solder.
