I finally finished up the Stone Cold amp, a 14watt 6V6 amp that is in a Sour Mash early Bluesbreaker cabinet. It has 4 channels of tone, speakers are Celestion Vintage 30 and a Scumback Blackback. For tone the amp has a slightly modded Plexi Bright, a clean Fender, a Randy Roads style of cascaded 2203 Marshall, and a bone raw edgy clean. The amp has a base idea taken from a Friedman BE. Pics below:

Sounds like a great idea, we'll done!

I was recently back up north and had the good fortune to spend an afternoon at David Hopkins for a visit. I pulled the Stone Cold out of the combo, slapped a blank plate on the bottom and took it along. This first video is David playing through the Plexi channel with a Les Paul. All of the following videos were un rehearsed, I would plug into an input, set the knobs where I thought it would sound good and David played. The first is here below.

And I did manage to coax David into playing a Strat that he had back in the corner. He said he didn't like the guitar and was going to sell it. I asked him to indulge me and just play something on it. Afterwards he said "damn, now I'm going to have to keep the guitar". This ones for you "Far".

And I have torn this one back apart again. I really dug the Plexi side more so than the cascaded version, so I decided to go with a full version of a Plexi. That is with iron of 14watts and 6V6 power tubes. this time it will be fixed bias not cathode and a true 4 hole version. Ready for final check out and to fire up. Plexi version is 1968, preamp voltages will be stock Marshall when finished. 6V6 power tubes will be @ 370V. Passive fx loop added and resonance too.

Old stock mustard caps, BC caps, Draloric resistors, new stock Vishay plate resistors, new Cliff jacks, new PEC pots, Hammond PT and 3hy Choke, MPS OT.

My wife says "You can't make your mind up about anything on those amps". I told her it is like when I paint with oils, if the painting isn't finished there is always something left to do on it. I will not be satisfied until I hear the best tone possible coming out of any of my amp builds.
