...all out of state internet purchases are now being TAXED in California. My order from Sweetwater on Monday got taxed...no reason to go there first any longer. Maybe this will help brick and mortar stores or maybe it's already too late? I know I'll be scrutinizing my big ticket items from now on!

What tax rate are they using? The city of Santa Ana sales tax rate just went up 1.5% to 9.25% April 1. I bet the businesses along the border with other cities are going to go out of business now. Then over all revenue will go down and the head honchos will go WTF happened. Dumb sh#ts.

Maryland is getting the legislation ready to phase in $15 minimum wage here by like 2020 or something.

Looks like more mom and pop places will all die off and everywhere will replace workers with touch screen self serve this and that even more than we already have.

I favor the brick and mortars when I can...but if they don’t have/can’t get what I want in a reasonable timeframe...I’ll pay the premium to my door. This is alway the case with tubes. No one ever has what I’m looking for...always have to order out.

amazon makes it so easy to order damn near ANYTHING -- I ordered FLEA repellent --1.08 cheaper than going to the local "brick and mortar" plus not gas/time expended--delivered to my door TOMORROW---ordered TODAY ---- stupid easy

I just checked, I’ve placed 133 orders in the last 6 months on Amazon. I basically shop at 3 b&m stores, Home Depot, Costco, and Pavillions food store. Almost everything else is Amazon.

Paying someone to flip burger at McD's is STOOPID. Those jobs were not meant to support families.

9.5%

...and Santa Ana has had it good. We have been paying over 10% in Palmdale which is in LA County...

It's not enough they tax my income at around 36%. They don't want us to have anything left after taxes...

How does out-of-state sales taxation work in practice? I'm starting to picture customs posts at state borders. This is a stupid amount of needless bureaucracy - taxation should be handled at federal level.

Taxes in America are done in so many ways.

Most of the 50 States have their own income tax, Then there is Federal income tax based on income.
On top of that are sales taxes, ( think VAT but different) Then there are other taxes like school taxes in some towns, states etc. Businesses are assessed property/equipment taxes, Gas is taxed ( added into the price per gallon) Roughly .40 per gallon in most states.

Now as the California contingent is saying, California wants a piece of the pie for goods purchased outside Cal borders....

We have several taxes here in the UK too, but we never see them. All prices in shops are the amount of cash you have to hand over. And there are no taxes based on movement of goods around the UK. In fact, for the next few weeks there are no taxes associated with moving goods around Europe.

In our shops in most states, the prices marked are BEFORE tax price. Then based on where the store is, is the rate charged. In Maryland we tax at 6%.
Like the Californians say, they are pushing 9-10% on top of all merch.
