The Legend of Dirty Girl

A few years back, I obtained this Lotus from another member whom had acquired this axe from swampland yard sale. Because of the rough, uncared for condition, Adrian informed me that she was a very dirty girl prior to us exchanging guitars. Here is what Dirty Girl looked like before I started undressing her.

I had run across a SG that that really inspired me and this was the motivation behind Dirty Girl...

After disassembling the Lotus, it was time to strip the black paint from her body...

Removal of the paint revealed this was a 4 piece body with come very interesting discoloration in the top horn truly owning up to the name Dirty Girl. I exaggerated the lines between the 4 planks that made up the body. Several coats of a tea based stain, then several more coats of Tung Oil are starting to bring this Dirty Girl to life.

A little bit of copper shielding tape goes a long way to fighting off unwanted hums...

Now y'all know that Dirty Girl just had to have a custom pick guard. A quick trip to Home Depot and I found this sheet of wood panel to make her a new pick guard.

Y'all may be wondering what all those pots and switches are doing. Well they say a picture is worth a thousand words...

In keeping with the old relic theme, I used all BRASS hardware..

When I say the words Dirty Girl, the first picture to come to mind in the infamous mud flap Girl..




So I just had to add this iconic image to Dirty Girl...

The neck was from a left handed doner guitar. I cut a new nut to fit the string reversal.
