The Difference Between Canadian & American Football...

Pretty interesting.

I think I’d enjoy Canadian football. It actually looks a little more interesting.

I've been to quite a few games in Toronto when the wife was alive and we went together. It's real fun to watch and the fans really get into it...probably due to the beer. We even got to go on the field after the game and mingle with the players and cheerleaders. I have a photo somewhere of my wife standing behind Ricky Williams (Miami Dolphins) who played for the Toronto Argonauts for a while and I also remember the Doug Flutie years. The CFL back in the 90's had American expansion teams but it's back to being all Canadian again. The Toronto Argonauts themselves are about 5 years older than the country of Canada itself if you believe it.

Big Sam would be sent off in rugby union for most of this stuff:

& Aussie Rules, while also being a good game, is a completely different game from Rugby Union or Rugby League. & then there's the Irish stuff with sticks!

This one is for Mr. Grumpy who likes North American sports.

That does make sense of the play on the other thread because I used to play American Football with my mate John Madden and wasn't aware of the Canadian rules. My only defensive play was the blitz - it's a risky one, but high gain when it comes off and a lot of fun.

I recall watching a game where the defense ran blitz EVERY DOWN--- 6-7 in a row-- then they would randomly throw in "zone" coverage--they wore out the offensive line and had them so gun shy it basically won the game for them.......seems like it was the Oregon Ducks ---I believe they where playing someone like Arkanasa or Alabama--- somebody with a HUGE massive front offensive line--they new they where out "powered" --those HUGE front linemen can stop a truck-- but not ----quickly-- over and over and over a gain -0-- they get tired-- fast--- Hell of a strategy -- I was impressed...so much I remembered it all these years.

I’m trying to find a way to watch CFL games in the US. The differences intrigue me. I’d like to see it in action.

I see on the CFL website that they are available in the US via ESPN2. I’ll have to check and see if I even get that with my TV package. I’m not sure. But, a lot of the games seem to be played later in the evening.

@BlackSG91 , do you know of any websites where I could watch recorded games?

That's a good question Witty Smitty. I haven't had cable TV for years now but use the internet a lot. Maybe your best bet is to view games live-stream on YouTube or maybe NetFlix? YouTube seems to be the biggest so far in viewing anything you want including movies, etc. I would also try Google Search for any live-stream or recorded games if that's any help. I'm not digitally up to par compared to some others but that's what I know so far. Hope that helps.

Here's some highlights from the 1976 Grey Cup game between the Ottawa Rough Riders & the Saskatchewan Roughriders (yes 2 teams with the same name). Tony Gabriel was the star and made a spectacular touchdown catch for Ottawa helping them clinch the title. The Grey Cup is like the Super Bowl in the NFL and the trophy has been around for over a hundred years. The trophy was named after Lord Earl Grey whom I believe was governor-general of Canada at the time.
