Take It To The Limit...Hard Rock??? WTF???

Very interesting arrangement. Would have never rocked this one out. TITLL was the first 3/4 time song I learned on my Takamine acoustic back in 1977. This book is copyright 1975.

It was an experiment. First of all, let me say that I do not think you can beat the original arrangement. However, if i am successful in my "rock" version, I might get to add it to the set. Now, knowing this version doesn't hold a candle to the original, imagine how wild it would be to hear this song in a club where other bands are doing 1970's/80's covers!!!!

It's sounding less like a rock-n-roll version and more like The Eagle's came to a performance on dope... :-)

One thing ill say Robert is your guitar is always dead nut in tune, even under high gain i hear no wavering notes. That alone takes some doin i know.

Hey, JohnnyGoo - I gotta give Mom the credit for stressing the importance of always being in tune. Working in her studio it was one of her pet peeves - to be out of tune or intonation. It's a HUGE THING in a professional studio. My three guitars - a 2016 Gibson Les Paul, a 2016 Gibson SG and my Von Herndon Double Neck, never go out of tune and I always use the same string - Ernie Ball .009" X .046" on all my guitars. Probably most important is that I intonate my guitars between the 1st and 9th frets and I don't worry too much about the 12th fret harmonic. Proper intonation in the lower register is critical when playing open chords. I also set my 1st fret string height to .010" on all my guitars, so even if I slap a capo on any one of them, it will not pull it sharp.

I appreciate your critique!!!!

Tracking vocals. There are 7 background harmony parts to do....I will have to do 4 myself and my partner will sing 3...

Here's the rough draft of the song. I am singing lead and 4 of the 7 harmony parts....Not sure the band is going to add the song, so I am just doing it for fun. I really tried to make this a 'hard-rock' version, but my country-blues roots keep showing through. This is an unfinished mix, so all critiques are welcome...

Working on getting this one uploaded to Soundcloud....

Here it is...the tempo is slowed down with a key change to A. It sounds a little different, but I tried to keep most of Meisner's high parts - the one at 4:30 is my absolute upper limit.

Enjoy...this is how we did it in Mom's band in the bars and clubs of Central California back in the 1980's and it was the closest thing to a rock song i could have in the setlist...
