Tabbing Software

Anyone has any advice for good tabbing software, i.e. user friendly?
Currently i have Guitar Pro 5 and i DO NOT have a PhD in music. Trying to write tab from a youtube video, i mean, the tab is scrolling on the bottom of the video but the bloody software just wont let me put the number of notes per bar that i want. Really not user friendly. Yes if i was a musician it would be easy but i am not.
Thanks

Well i went the old fashioned way. Copied a bar of Life by the Drop, which gives me enough per bar. the delete and replace. Of course the sheet is all red because the program doesnt like it, but it doesnt show when i print

Dpends on your platform. I've used Tuxguitar with success, though I tend to go the raw mode way in a text editor if I need to. I also happen to have a huge collection of tabs (basically a large chunk of the paywalled ultimate-guitar.com). Is there anything else specific you're looking for (I can drop the file)?

Edit: If you're interested I have 3 versions of Life By The Drop and a bunch more of his stuff.

Thanks, no I have a good version of Life by the drop, I just use it as a copy paste of 8 notes per bar.
I saw Tuxguitar, but it said you have to deactivate the “safety” devices on your oc to install it. Anyways , I am good for now, will look at Tux in more details.
Thank you

I don't compose much, but for tabbing out parts of cover songs I play I just use WORD and Courier New font (every character is the same number of pixels wide). You can make your "bar" as wide as you want.

Not quite; as it's an open source project funding is limited, they don't want to get the installer signed every time by all the big companies when there's a new release. Effectively, one permits an unsigned application to be installed.

Any monospace font and an editor do the trick indeed. Engage insert mode and it's actually not that tedious.

Well i use LibreOffice, but that works, i just copied your tab and pasted it. It would also solve the other issue i had with Guitar pro, the print i had yesterday was small with small font, hard on the eyes. Using a word processor i can make bigger bolder better faster stronger.
Thanks guys
