I've sold batteries for 40 years and never came across anything like that one. And I sold relatively expensive ones. Now, once I got to the Marina where I retired from, boats use some expensive batteries. There's one we sold that's an 8D Deep Cycle battery and are used for the house.... ie. everything except starting the diesel engine. That used a standard auto style battery(s). A 45-50 foot sailing yacht would use 4-6 of those 8D batteries. Each battery weighed 125lbs plus and one guy couldn't carry it. And they didn't cost $600 each.

Which was why I was trying to figure out why yours is so special. A rough rule of thumb on battery prices at the boat yard went..... a Group 27 battery (sorta a standard pickup truck battery size)..... A lead/acid battery sold for about 125 bucks. AGM would be double that. A Gel Cell would be triple the lead/acid. And if I remember right. We were selling a private label battery manufactured by Exide.

You have to take in consideration, This is a 2019 Santa Fe, it has lots of electronics that need power to run all the systems . This has the device that when you stop at a light and idle it shuts the vehicle off , then when you hit the gas to go it restarts the engine, you wouldn't believe , need power for heated seats , steering wheel , locks etc etc list goes on.

The battery that was installed is original equipment, thats what the vehicle came with. This vehicle you cannot run radio on accessory, it might work for about 3 minutes then message comes up shutting down to save battery power. These newer high end vehicles are nothing compared to 10 years ago.


You can buy batteries cheap for those older models, today cheap batteries are a thing of the past for newer vehicles. If you think my battery was expensive, wait til you see the prices for electrics and hybrids..;)

Which is why I pointed out on my wife's 50,000 mile 2018 SUV we're still going with best. But considered how little I drive the Civic these days, I no longer feel is in my best interest to break the bank on an almost 20 year old car with 200k on the clock. I mean, I'm at the point that one expensive repair bill totals the car and I'll sell it for whatever I can get. That's what I did with our 1999 Intrepid. in 2013 it was basically a $500 car that burned a lot of oil... as in, I'd fog the car behind me when I accelerated. When it was going to cost 3 times the value of the car to get it to pass emissions (and that didn't address the oil burning issue, which is another story entirely).... I dumped it and bought the 07 Honda.

PS: Even our 2005 Toyota (traded on the SUV) and my 07 Civic was/is heavy with electronics, so I get the need for a good battery and charging system. They ain't a 77 Corvette that can be run with a dead battery as long as the alternator works.
 
In April I replaced the battery in our 2nd car / my 2001 Jeep Cherokee.
Same Walmart battery, price about $10 short of DOUBLED since last time about 5 years ago.
And, they don't stock much any more I had to order it ship to store.
Also, it was a real hassle to get the core charge return credit - they ended up issuing me an online gift card for the amount.
There was no way to process it in store.
Morons.

REAL increases in cost of living are obscene.
I won't continue.
I hear screaming about impending doom coming very soon, but I hope things just took a turn for the better.
 
Since covid hit here prices have doubled on everything. And yes John about the impending doom coming very soon. Lets hope not.

My neighbor just bought a refurbished battery for their 14 year old Impala , cost him $80.
 
What is all this empending doom comming im reading about here ??? The Rapture comming ??? Armagedin ? Did i miss something ?

I lied.

First. Didn't watch the entire video. Pretty much quit watching after the guy said 50 grand to swap out the EV battery. I knew that was inaccurate and turns out inflated by about double or more to what it actually costs. So I spent some time and researched what it should cost. Depending on the car and the battery, more like $5000-$20,000. Compact EV's of course on the small end.... Audi's, Beemers and Tesla's on the higher end. Still stupid expensive..... but not 50k. What we have is a shop that didn't want to actually do the job and bid astronomically high figuring if the owner was dumb enough to give him the cash..... he'd do the job. Auto shops do it. Carpenters do it (we just recently had that experience). Landscapers do it. Plumbers..... the list is endless. But it's common practice in the service industry to grossly inflate the price when you don't want to do the job. How do I know this? Before retiring, I spent almost 50 years in the service industry.
 
Last year my Costco battery went bad they gave me a new one free well the battery in my Honda Pilot just went out same battery
just have to charge it up and replace it.

That video is legit, Its an Ionic Hyundai, that was what the owner was quoted for battery replacement, by the Hyundai dealership, you didn't research it out enough.;)
