At the moment I have two: '79 LPC Silverburst with T-Tops, and '81 SG Deluxe Goldburst with a Shaw/Super combo. Both have ebony 'boards. Both have all kinds of Norlin funkiness. Both sound like the voice of fu@kin' GOD and sustain for days.

I like the Firebird Studio. I have two of 'em, one in Pelham blue and a rare natural korina.

They are set neck but they sustain fine. Perhaps less sustain unplugged than a neck-through, but the flip side of that is that they're less rigid and come alive better at volume. Lively, not too heavy, and no redialing amps to suit mini rail Firebird pickups.

$699 is a pretty good deal. They have white ones over on the SDOTD now.

I have found over the past couple of years that I'm a fan of almost anything that isn't a strat shape.

Don't get me wrong: my collection of guitars feature more strat shapes than anything else, however, my MOST used guitars at this point are V and Explorer shaped....

That being said, a Firebird IS on the list. If I get drunk enough tonight, I might be having one delivered in a few days lol

Metal needs moar Firebirds. Billy K's sparrowhawk comes to mind, but that's about all I can think of off the top of me cabeza.

Even then, still not quite a Firebird!

I have a THunderbird-- whcih frankly is a LOT OF BIRD!
real estate wise-- and POWER wise (thing shakes the foundations of HEaven! )

These are deep questions dude....

For metal purposes, I may suggest that it's the attitude that each different axe evokes that may (or may not) make the difference

I sure agree about Thunderbirds. It's a huge guitar and a big sound - mine is named Thunderbeast.

You've gotta admit that a Firebird feels a lot longer than an SG or LP though, even when the scale length & pickups are the same. I think the three sound a bit different too, even though my 'Birds have regular hums and set necks. With the neck-thru construction and minihum-sized rail pickups, the classic type Firebirds seem especially different.

Never been much of an SG guy myself - they just hang wrong for me - but I've never been able to get the same deep woody punch from one that I do from Les Pauls. Expressive in their own way, sure, but generally with a bit more snarl and a bit less thump than an LP. To me, anyway.

That Wildmaster is really cool, hadn't seen one of those before. (Not sure I'd spend nearly four grand for one tho.)

Well Im playing Devils Darling--- as I agree-- a neck through const with minihums-- or an EMG loaded LTD "offset" guitar--- are going to sound different than a LEs Paul Studio---or a Firebird Studio....or a Standard 2 bucker SG

HOWEVER
IF-- we had two basic guitar shapes --same thickness of wood--- same wood species--from the SAME TREE-- same fret wire same pups same brand manufacturer off the same assembly line made with the same CNC machine on the SAME day same set neck same tuners --same scale length sprayed with Lacquer FROM THE SAME JAR and wired by hand (same employee) with the same wire from the same spool and pots from the same mfct. and same production run.....played through the same amp with the same cord-----ON the same settings----in the same room LIVE--sitting in the same chair played back to back
(you all see where I am going with the INSANITY of the minutia of debate on this right????)

Id pay anyone who could tell the damn difference the princely sum of a dollar ;)
