Sp8ctre failed to fall in love with Bass...

I'm sure we covered this somewhere by now but how do I pronounce Sp8ctre with my brain? Obviously I'm not talking out loud but often I do sort of hear things being pronounced as I read them. This is why the word 'Sp8ctre' gives me wittle brainy brain frik'n fitz! Not only does it not make a sensible word as written but it still makes no sense to me regardless of how thing are sounded out or pronounced. Yet simply enough if the '8' was replaced by an 'e' we have a legit word with a specific meaning.

So help me out Sp8ctre, how do I read this & or pronounce this name & if y'all don't mind, how about shedding some insight into the meaning that I'm sure is hidden in there that has caused such a different sort of spelling out of your name in the first place?
Please enlighten my brotha from anutha mutha.

eSGEe, sorry to twist up your semi dormant since Dec 2016 thread.
It is just funny & too coincidental in how I see Sp8ctre's name being pronounced like Spectre & he was the only person to so far reply to this Spector thread! So,.. fook-it eh?

No worries --- it reminds me I need to remind Spectre...er Sp8ctre --- or Spector --- any of the three--- to send me the 1000 watt Bugera Bass amp they owe me........

It is pronounced like the comic it's used from "The Spectre" it's spelled with an 8 because when I went to get my plates for my car the spelling with the "E" was taken. The only number that started with E and remotely resembles it is "8" so there you have it...and in the sound clip I really like the UK pronunciation!

I have a similar 5 string version with a Bubinga body, gold hardware & active pickups.
It's tough to compare because that 5 string neck widens into a real handful toward the octave & I'm sure this one doesn't.

But if these are similar active pups they are way versitle with broad adjustable tones.

Ya know, as far as things always seeming too expensive for you Mr Humble,
played several Spector bass Guitars-- could not afford any of them....
do you think the more expensive stuff has less room for making profit? Harder? Riskier? A$$hole clientele? What?

It always seems to me that one could make money just as easily flipping upper tier gear as flipping the cheap stuff. I understand it takes some start up money (which I know you could muster & probably have secreted away somewhere in your taxidermied alligator) &, the markets & sellers are different, but I know I've personally gotten some real deals on Gibson stuff that I could have quickly & easily flipped making hundreds of dollars on if I wanted to.

So, why not? What keeps you from switching gears & move'n on up to this stuff bro? I know you'd do well but I can't figure out why ya don't make the move. Obviously, you don't want to but why is the real question.

Risk.....and fun are the answer Relic

If I am trying to turn a grand or more profit on a 5,000.00 lester I am going to be ---stressed--- if I am flipping a 30.00 yard sale find for 150.00 --- if I get it ---cool-- if it doesnt sell for a month or 12 I dont really care.....

Me too. I do enjoy playing with the group I am with, but it's not my first love....

I remember in 1970, I heard "Mississippi Queen" and asked my Mom, "Good Grief!!! Who is that???" And Mom replied, "Sounds like the Devil and his Demons' to me!" To which I shouted, "Where can I sign up to become a demon!!!!???"

Got my mouth washed out with soap that time....

Needed a bass for a paying job with a blues band. NEVER bought anything but new. Good ol' Adrian schooled me and I hit Craigslist. Scored an imported Ibanez for $60 and it's dead-quiet and plays good!!!!

Adrian, my good buddy, Eric who has played in the US and abroad plays a Spector as his number 1. He is a killer player too.

I've never priced the Spector basses though.

I just call him Sp8 and be done with it.

My lifelong friend fellow musician & drummer in one of my bands actually plays drums with Stuart Spector (owner / designer / builder of Spector Guitars in Saugerties NY, near Woodstock NY) & the guitar player in that group (Jimmy Eppard) is also one of Stuarts 4 USA manufacturing employees that now prefers manning the spray booth / body work duties.

Stuart Specter is a local hometown boy that made a successful mark in the musical instrument field. Local pride aside, I find his instruments to be well made, versatile & made available across the monetary spectrum for players of all financial situations.

Rock On.

I highly trust my friend Eric's ears, fingers and years of playing experience. If he plays a Spector day in and day out, that gives me a clear enough message of the quality of Stuart's instruments.

Also, not Spector but Schecter. Once when I used to own my Schecter Model T Robert Deleo bass with EMG P and J pups, I took it to one of Eric's gigs with Deanna. When I asked him to check it out, he said it was a beautiful bass and then warned me if he tried it during the show, he has a tendency to sweat. I said no problem bro, I can always wash that off. Well, I was flabbergasted as Eric played it for the entire show. I truly regret selling it, but also felt good when about a year after doing so, I asked the new owner how he liked it. His answer was, " I just recorded a CD with it if that answers your question."

Rock on Indeed.
