So, how about some sweet smelling gunpowder smoke and hedges?

So, I was invited to join a new band project, which I think will consist basically in lots of fun.

A Guns n' roses tribute band. I was invited to play Izzy Stradlin's guitar parts. I was happy as a puppy with four tails, 'cause I ain't much of a shredder myself, and Izzy is one HELL of a good rhythm player, his base work is kickass!

We'll cover their albums starting by Appetite for Destruction and then do the Illusion tour.

I was young when they came up with Appetite and was already a young Guns fan when they toured playing the Illusion albums. They were especially appreciated here in Brazil, since they played in two editions of Rock in Rio festival.

Saw them live too and it was magical.

No matter what, I'll always be a Gunner, though I obviously prefer the older classic stuff I love so much.

I thought of discussing the band and the project here... My questions are:

Do you like GnR?

Even if you don't in particular, let's suppose you went out for a beer and the pub you're at is gonna present a Guns cover band and you decided to stay anyway: what would you like it to sound/look like?

Any opinions will be most appreciated!

Thats fooking great Sergio.Love GnR myself.Seen the original line up live when they hit it big at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma Washington. They were fantastic in there prime .

Yeah, nobody can deny that they kicked ass back in the day.

Oh and please shoot your suggestions, guys! Ideas, pros, cons, dos and don't dos... Anything!

I'm still gonna try everything out before I begin to learn the songs and dial in the tones, but just to shoot the breeze now, which guitars do you guys think will sound cooler for Izzy's groundwork? Strats with Fat '50s or SG with '57s? Keep in mind that I make my SSS strats sound real menacing when I use the evil RAT Wade gave me! I'm doing some serious distortions with it.

You also need a Gibson ES-175 or what ever that guitar was Izzy Stradlin played.Single Cut it was.Kinda like Nugents Byrdland but i think it was more like the Gibsons George Thorogood played.

George plays ES125TC guitars.....

Sérgio, when I saw the title of this post I immediately thought you were talking about pistols in the woods. Around here that's gunsmoke and the woods surrounding my place!

A Strat in a band like that? Yeah, you're gonna need your RAT!
Forget the Marshall, you got a RAT remember? Those overpriced amps crap out too much...
There! That'll get all the "Marshall Minnions" all twisted outta shape! Ha!

I really liked GnR. Although they have not stood the test of time for me, I still listen when it comes on.

I Would expect old school OD that sounds like power tube breakup. A charsmatic singer with the Axle affect. No costumes...that would make me cringe. Everyone will be anticipating the Slash style solo.

If I got these things, I would stay at the pub.

Hey Sergio, first let me say congrats on the gig, man - cool deal. If your look'n for a view point from someone that isn't a big Gun's and Roses fan and seeing a cover band based on them I'll weigh in some. Gun's and Roses have some songs that are their "sound" as far as original sounding goes, but they have a lot of songs (to me) that are just kind of everyone does this style/stuff filler tunes that aren't all that original sounding. I guess, long story short, I'd like to hear their hit material mainly and the rest of their tunes only as necessary to fill in time/space to get thru the night. However, I have the funny feeling there is going to be an adequate G&R crowd to play pretty much any of their tunes. Face it, G&R does have it's fans and followers (even if I'm not one per say). They've got more hits than I do - lol. So, respects, respects - know what I mean ;)

loves me some GNR Appetite era.....and before--- after---- not so much.....

But I still like Slash and Duff and Izzy ,......basically all of them ---except Axle--

As Izzy tended to use some type of Gibson with humbuckers, I'd say you'd do better with the SG.
