While living in the Catskill Mountains has it's beautiful rewards that long ago stole my heart & has kept me living here my whole life & not running for warmer climates like other retired NY'ers,.. It also has its serious Snow Dumps ! So it is with no surprise that I look at my driveway (it is 'The Dreiveway' section after all) & find that 2017's Winter Storm Stella has dumped around 2 feet of snow down upon Camaro!

Here's some of todays pics.

That's the Camaro, the hump of snow in the middle of the picture!

Even the Firebird hiding in the barn got some snow blown on her this storm.

(above) To give an idea of depth, that is the Camaro's driver side mirror sticking out the side of that pile of snow!

(below) Here's part of what got cleared yesterday which actually required some shoveling before being able to use my little yard tractor with a 12" manual plow blade. Being the snow was many inches higher than the snow plow blade it was hours of work just to clear what I got cleared & I was at it from 10am to 7pm with 3 changes of clothing to keep dry & warm.

Fortunately, I still love the beauty of this place, even under 2' of snow, so I won't complain, despite my aching arm's telling me they don't feel like moving around any more snow.

Maybe it's these hardships that help forge & strengthen the bond with this area I love so much.

In the end, despite the snow, Our American flag still flies with love & appreciation for all we do have here in our little 'peace' of America.

I need to move in next to you...which is probably five miles away from your house!

I promise I'm a good neighbor. I don't make noise and I keep my yard clean.

That looks like my kind of territory.

Sounds good Smitty but make no mistake about it, we will be making some noise! lol.

Maybe I should keep you posted on the next house that gets abandoned by some lightweight city dweller that thought a house in the country was a good idea but found they couldn't hack the solitude & other concessions like no cable, no high speed internet & no cell phones (Holy Yuppie Yikes Batman!!) that accompanies living out here.?.

I could use a Rock'n neighbor bro! sayin..

Up North, just above the Vermont/Quebec border, we got a meter in the last 24h and it is still snowing.

Spent the day on the slopes. I had to wear a mask so I didn't choke from the snow coming up my face. I love this poop.

Beautiful property. You must be all smiles there.

Now, as for that car inside the garage. I was thinking 67-68 camaro.....but, now I don't see a tail. It's difficult to tell from the photo. What's hiding in there??

You know it!

Don't you just love that scent in the air just before it starts to snow?

Then, after the snow is thick on the ground, the air is still and quiet.

Yesterday, as it was starting to snow here, I walked around the yard barefoot picking up trash that had blown into my yard. I could smell the snow coming in.

Four seasons...gimme four seasons...

I was thinking this afternoon that I was probably going to get pictures from folks getting more snow & it dawns on me, 'snowfalls are like wankers, somebody else is always going to have more inches.'

Wish I was sharing the slopes with ya instead of moving snow! Lucky you! Lucky you!

Good eye there bud. Think '69 & sister GM manufacturer. Right, that's the one! lol

wow thats alot of snow, but you have a beautiful place there relic

Thank you my Brotha from an otha Mutha.

I have been very blessed & fortunate in my life to have been able to rebuild & reinvent myself & the life I have 3 times now, mostly due in part to 2 failed marriages & my loosing EVERYthing! I am appreciative of all the opportunity this wonderful country affords me & others who 'believe they can' & choose to try.

Rock On

To divert to the less important aspects of this life affirming thread, don't many in your area use satellite service in lieu of cable for both TV and internet?

That's me brother! LOL

Unfortunately satellite just isn't good enough for affordable high speed internet regardless of the bogus claims they all make in their selling propaganda! Not only does the delay / latency make things like Skype unusable (forget about live gaming 'You're Dead'!!) but after you use up your monthly allotment of daytime data your service gets throttled back even further to the point it is so slow you can't even think about watching a short you-tube video without buffering delays!! Just unacceptable & a real racket if you ask me.

Before moving out here to the land of limited options, I had Time Warner cable that included Family Cable Package, &, Unlimited Long Distance & High Speed Internet for $105 a month!! My lousy Satellite Internet alone is $70 a month (& I use up my monthly daytime allotment in 4-6 days). My Verizon Unlimited Long Distance is $85 & my maxed out channel Dish Network TV service is over $150 a month.

So ya, that is a definite down side 'round here. lol

I like white Camaros.

I got yer White Camaro!

DSC04765 (3) (390x332).jpg

It's White on White! LOL

Hey lets dig it out shall we?? Ho Tay!

Sportin the dorsal fin doo.

DSC04782 (2) (390x285).jpg

I snuck this down the road & blew the rest of the snow off. Sussh! That illegal in NY state, Fvk'n commies.

DSC04784 (2) (390x206).jpg

In the end, all that was left was the a$$-print of the Camaro in the snow bank!

And once again,... life is good. Well, good 'nuff for me & the Mrs!

So, you started digging out when there was still daylight, and you finished after dark?

Would it really surprise you to find out I'm pretty anal / OCD / very particular about shoveling a driveway correctly?? LOL

DSC04792 (2) (390x293).jpg

If the lazy teenager or soft minded sister had their way, snow would simply be pushed off vehicles, a path cleared to barely get IN the drivers door & then just enough driveway would get sloppily cleared just wide enough to drive the car down out to the road with enough speed to bust through the mess that the highway department left pushed in front of the driveway. All done without any forethought or planning about what happens to the snow as it sits where it is & hardens or what happens with the new snow come the next time it snows again!?! (where does that new snow go now??)

DSC04788 paint department (2) (390x253).jpg

So being I was 'that kid' shoveling or snowplowing our driveway for Dad while he was at work (You know that USPS slogan,.. 'Come rain or snow or yada bla blah'...) I learned my snow lessons early & know the importance of getting the snow 'cleared' far enough away to allow for the next snowfall to be easily cleared away. That means not having to bust up frozen snow banks & re-shovel them further away or, having to throw the new snow over & beyond the old snow. Laziness just doesn't pay in snow-business Smitty.

DSC04787 (3) (390x289).jpg

Oh, plus I didn't start until sometime after 4pm! lol

Y'all boys up north crack me up. :pound-hand:
Be close to 70 soon. Think I'll amble out to my pistol range and have at it with one of my old shooters. Question is, which T-shirt should it pick?:hmmm:

Fact is, two days ago I was out mowing the front pasture as it was ankle deep and green! Nope, I just can't see the Yankee infatuation with snow..... Makes ya wonder sometimes. :rolleyes2:

Thanks Wade, this needed a nice steaming turd plopped on top of this thread just so we don't loose ourselves making the best of life too much 'round here. LOL :( Hah! Gotcha!

Thing is, this is where I was born & raised & where my family & friends are from. I made the best out of the $#it hand I got dealt as a young child & found a way to make the best of what I got, largely in part to a loving woman that took me in & showed me the love a child needs in life to be happy. Thanks Mom. God rest your soul. RIP So, just like in my situation here, there are often strong ties that bind people to a certain area despite their less than idyllic climate. Aren't you close now to where you & your family were from too? I always found it takes a special kind of selfish to be able to move away from family & other ties just to be warmer in the winters, but WTH am I right?

Anyway, I too love the weather down south too but there are more important things than me thinking of myself & warm weather, like family & friends. So here we are, talking about this crappy snowstorm trying to look at the bright side & make the best of a difficult burden of a situation. I truly hope I didn't sound truly happy about having to deal with this $#it for last 2 days out of my life!

Luckily, despite the hassle of the snow & the cold, it isn't too hard to find happiness & beauty where I live.

Believe me, if I ever get to feeling I can't handle it around here, I'm heading to the Mohave or maybe Death Valley area. I love the peace & solitude & that warm dry heat feels oh so good on my aching a$$.

Oh by the way, you do know what a 'Yankee' is right? I'd be havin lots of $hit to say if I lived down south & people thought it ok to thrown that $#it around thinkin it's funny, friendly or alright to call me that like it's OK. Name calling 'taint my thing but I got no problem calling a muth'r fvk'r out when they is out o line. But hey, I know you! & I know you don't mean nothing by it more than pokin fun. Maybe you could try googling the origins & meaning of the word & then see how you feel about using it after that? I'm bettin ya don't! Because you is that type of stand up guy & just wouldn't choose to use the literal historical meaning of the word.

Would it really surprise you to find out I'm pretty anal / OCD / very particular about shoveling a driveway correctly?? LOL

No, it would not surprise me, at all. I'm the same way; I have a pattern for how to go about shoveling the driveway, the sidewalks, and the deck.

Plus, I shovel until all the pavement/cement is cleared. Then, I often follow up with a wide sweep broom to try to clear it off even more.

I even shovel a swath by the mailbox so the mailman can still pull his truck up to the mailbox.

For me, the key is not to rush things. Small to moderate shovels-full at a time. It's a decent workout and I'm usually done in two hours.

Yup, I'm OCD about the shoveling routine, too.

I thought I'd cheer you up with a photo taken about 100 yards from my house. It's from 1925 and shows a bunch of Sioux chaps who had come to visit having fun on toboggans. Snow can be OK.

Whaaaat!? Boy, they say a picture is worth a thousand words but this one raises a thousand questions! lol Wow! Full head-dress, even the little one!

What else do ya know about this, like; why were they there? I know they used to have traveling shows, do you think they were part of it? Might explain the dress.
