Saving pennies

gasket

Ambassador of the Guitarded
I'm known to be penny wise and pound foolish, always been like that but ... it's allowed me to have some nice things over the years. I've spent an obscene amount of money on collecting new guitars when I'm a seriously bad student (player).
So to the point, my local shop gave me a couple of packs of Fender 351 shape thin picks, I do like them. When the first became worn I filed it to a sharper point and my novice feeling is it gives me more control, better feel. If I stick with reshaping worn picks given I still have 23 unused they'll last the rest of my life. :)
What say you, do others rework humble picks?

Salvaged, reshaped on left new on right.

No.

I framed the pic I played my first gig with the current band but I never reshape any.

They're too cheap

Framed pick from first gig ... love that, good for you. If I ever do a live performance I'll copy that idea.

The save money (in this instance) is a bit of a joke, really asking for comment on pick shape.
My reworked is somewhat pointer than the factory and much more than a used one.
Technically am I doing a good, bad or it's personal thing with that point?

If I ever do a live performance I will need bail money ----arrested for disturbing the peace----

to the actual point: ---get it-- Seems like a great way to TRY different shapes before buying...pics are cheap---but can get pricey....especially if you get into tone wood, metal, aluminum, brass, nickel exotic bone and marble and titanium and .....and.....and (ugh)

As a beginner --- just the idea to try different point styles to see how that effects playing and (tone perhaps) shows----you are not TRULY a beginner. ;)

Or your just a cheap ol loon and need to spend the next week bringing me that Triumph of yours (which one is irrelevant) lol
Happy Friday

personally I prefer a pick AFTER it has started to wear a bit.---back in my SPEED METAL days --- when FAST was all the rage--- I used thinner picks--- now--- I prefer a thicker pick, worn to just the right level.....like comfy broke in shoes......

Just ran through some scales, back to back comparing both picks.
My terminology, unconventional but I'll do my best.
The pointy reshaped pick was ...
faster off the string
less effort on the string
lighter movement for same volume.

Then ran through some chords, back to back.
same comments re feel, but less obvious
pointy pick seemed slightly brighter tone
std slightly fuller sound
Example, playing a G chord, high E string sounded out stronger with pointy pick.

Interested in comment, I'm feeling my way (beginner), am I having myself on???

I have mentioned ---perhaps not to you--- but to others ---

If you wanna have some FUN vis a vis the "tone available with 1 particular guitar" .........
go to the local guitar shop......
select 1 each of a MULTITUDE of different picks--- color--shape--size--thickness-material composition -- get at least a dozen (pay)
leave
Stop and grab some beer
GO home---
choose an guitar
choose an amp
plug one into the other and set your favorite settings ---after this point you will not touch a knob on either for the rest of the test.

Set the picks in front of you --- choose one play a chord or two and a riff
then swap picks and play the same chords and riffs.
step rinse repeat----step rinse repeat all 12.

See what you find ..........have more beer and post the finding s

HERE:

then send me the Triumph.......I will trade you a very nice Squire Jaguar for it.....really? its VERY nice....right then.
