RPAS Certificate

Session 5

The Government here now wants all Radio Control Pilots to now be certified. I am proud to say I am now a certified RPAS Pilot! which means Radio Piloted Aircraft Systems. Its a serious exam and was told to prepare for about 6-7 hours of studying time which I did. M ajority of questions are to do with full size aircraft . Its a tough test.

If you fail which i did the first time, like many others did, you can retry after 24hours. the test is never the same, so if you try again the answers will be totally different. The manual has hundreds of documents, then broken down into different catogories and sections.

All I can say is I am happy I passed!!!!YEA!

All certificates Pilot registration certificates for planes you will be flying, must be with you at all times wherever you fly . Registration numbers for planes must be visible on each plane. Each plane has its on registration number.

Spektrum DX8 , builds a very good transmitter, the link with the receiver is very robust, no more waiting in line for a free frquency to fly on ,like the older years..Also this TX comes with free upgrades from Spektrum..

THE 'X'-TRA BENEFIT OF AGILITY

What DSMX™ adds to the tried-and-true wideband technology of DSM2 is the extra interference protection and faster reconnection times of frequency agility. But DSMX isn't just another frequency hopping system. It is wideband agile.
DSMX frequency shifts are coordinated using the most advanced FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) algorithm ever seen in an RC application. Unlike other FHSS transmitters that all hop in the same fixed patterns, every DSMX transmitter has its own unique frequency shift pattern calculated using its GUID (Globally Unique Identifier). And each pattern uses just 23 channels in the 2.4GHz spectrum.
By adding the agility of unique frequency shifts to the superior interference resistance of a wideband signal and limiting those shifts to a smaller portion of the 2.4 band, DSMX transmitters provide on-channel interference protection that is simply second to none. The result is quicker reconnection times and superb response in the noisiest 2.4GHz environment.

3D SPREAD SPECTRUM

In addition to its wideband DSSS foundation and smarter FHSS protocol, DSMX users enjoy a third dimension of signal protection that DSM2 users have always enjoyed. Only Spektrum full-range receivers offer the patented advantage of MultiLink™ dual-path redundancy. When combined with the superior wideband power and frequency agility of DSMX, MultiLink gives RC pilots the fastest, most reliable 2.4 RC technology available in any signal environment

Now I need to get my Graphics guy, to make my registration numbers...these will be my two planes I will be flying this year..These two are 1/4 Scale Replica Aircraft. One is an Extra 260 and the other is an Edge 540, will do everything the full size brother can do..
1/4 scale is still a decent size plane Norm. Planes my dad flew were toys compared…. At least in size.

Yes Rick these are classified as giant in the model world. 70'wingspan and up . The Extra 260 is 71" wingspan fuselage 62" the Edge 540 is 80" wingspan with fuselage 66" . My Katana here on the bench is 80" wingspan with 76" fuselage..

The nice thing with sim, I have a wide range of flying fields, wind speed, crosswind, gusting winds at low speeds up to high speeds in mph, also cloudy skies or sunshine or mixed, fields with trees or no trees, its all diferent types of Aircraft from bi planes, , Jets in different scale so large in size to small. This sim is incredible!

It does help out , its realistic and runs off of transmitter my DX7 which i use just for the sim only now, it used to be my main Tx until I bought my DX8 with newer technology DSMX.

Congrats, 5. Looks like a lot of studying to me. Your existing skill probably made it waaaay easier.

Probably a good call on the need for certification considering their capability on the jugular. Ouch!

Thanks Sapient. Unfortunately, for some it will be death for them going forward, in this great hobby. The exam is not easy. We have a full scale pilot in our club, who said the questions they ask on the test are crazy for R/C Pilots most questions asked are outside of what we need to know. You need a 65% to pass.
