RIP David Crosby

Man, 2023 ain't looking so hot honestly. Starting off pretty damn crappy for Rock icons to say the very least. Another legend gone and we have 11 months to go.

Though I got one foot firmly planted in hard rock and metal, the other is always sitting on classic rock territory and CSNY was a band I always enjoyed, especially hearing 4 part harmonies from 4 entirely different styles and personas. My favorites out of that group were always Stephen Stills and of course the mighty Neil Young, dating back to the Buffalo Springfield days. But I did like a lot of David Crosby's material and even some of The Byrd's. He had a really great tenor voice and kept the mid level vocals strong in the group.

Like a lot of musicians I enjoy, I've learned to separate the daily life personality from the music itself. Might not have enjoyed some of David's comments against other musicians and armchair politics, but that doesn't make me dislike his music one bit and it's quite said to see such an influential musician gone.

RIP David!

I said it was an honor to meet him.
He said no, it was his greater honor to meet me.
Then we argued for a while over who's honor was greater...his or mine. Talking / Standing on a street corner in Lihue; that's how I'm going remember him.

He put on 2 free concerts for us, Crosby Stills and Nash, Jimmy Buffett, Jackson Browne, Buffy Saint Marie, Sheena Easton, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson.

He was such an amazing harmony singer. Even though I've listened to his music thousands of times over the years, you could never help but hear something new that he was doing in the background. Such a brilliant musician. I saw recently that he had put together a new band in the last couple of years ago, and was having fun playing gigs again. Was hopping to catch him live up in this area. Oh well.

R. I. P. David. You will be missed.

I play guitar because of CSN and every now and then Y. My first guitar was acoustic…. Also because of these guys. Officially the Ovation was because of Glen Campbell.

So this one hits close to home.

And yes. Three weeks into 2023 and so far it sucks. We’ve lost too many.

Seems like we have to get used to the idea that all of the young rockers we grew up with also grew old. As such, we have to get used to the idea that them passing on will happen more and more often.

One of my early memories of music is listening to "Mr. Tambourine Man" by The Byrds. That was my first exposure to the idea that powerful rock can come in all shapes, sizes and sounds, like the harmonic beauty of Jangle. Rest In Power, David Crosby!

He never recorded a bunch of stuff, but he did it in his live shows. That's the part that most people missed altogether.
Too bad, it was like a whole new musical chapter now lost.
