*RETAKE* - My Latest Vocal Effort - Dokken - Alone Again ...

Ok after the new listen with my blue tooth speaker,, not that flat, but some of the spots in the song need a more emphasis in the conviction of the delivery, it felt that you were just sliding in, instead of being more pronounced.
If that makes sense.
Nice job by the way.
You could be my frontman anytime.
Cheers
Mitch

Thanks, Mitch. Appreciate your input, always. Yea, I get too nasaly ..that's kinda what I've been working on getting rid of. Problem is when I record I over do it but when I sit in the garage and a have a smoke it sounds nice. It's like whenever I start doing it right I drift off real quick into bad habits. I push too hard and it makes my voice sound funny.

Thanks again, bro.

I’m no expert/teacher/critic, so take what you will from my limited experiences…
Sounds like you’re pushing your head voice, not letting your chest and throat do their part. When you approach the upper register of your range you’re making your head(sinus and mouth) carry too much of the load.
When recording/performing:
Skip the smoke…seriously….I wish I had never indulged…ever. Also skip the alcohol(if that’s even a thing)…I was amazed at the difference even a single beer makes in shortening a recording session. The beer, or whatever, is for after the session is done completely.
Most of all keep practicing…don’t overdo it…pay attention to your body….and learn from your experiences.

Thanks, bro. Good call. I think if had I sung that like I do practicing or whatever, that it would have sounded better. A lot of people, including me, have a tendency to try to sing loud. I'm not sure why other than to say maybe it's a fake sense of doing it better. I don't know. I do need to balance them more, like you say.

This is just another drill I guess. Hopefully I can target the issues since that's a lot of what this was about. I know and knew I'm not exactly passing over gems. It kinda stings but I learn from it. Not that people criticize, it's that I kinda know these things but "will they notice". They (you) do. Lol

@Mitch Pearrow SJMP
That's an honor Mitch. Seriously. Thanks, bro. (y)

Sapient, you do not suck, BRO.
I sing so crappy when my niece was 3 and the Beauty and the Beast song came on and she starts singing it, I join in.

That's when she said, " Uncle Mark, you don't have to sing"

Thanks. :) I can hear her now in my niece's voice when she was young. They make it sound like they are doing you a favor and giving you a break.

Too funny. Kids are so strait forward and it's fun to play along too with the way they trying to make it sound. "Ok <niece>, thank you for letting me just rest." :pound-hand:

@Sapient my human brother;)

You have improved a lot since I’ve heard you last time.

I agree with @Mitch Pearrow SJMP and @Thatbastarddon try to get rid of the nasal sound and make words pop out more. Some parts you sound like you are trying to catch up with a song, take you time when you are singing, relax, dont rush and keep practicing.

Singing is not easy but you are doing great!

Cheers

Definitely has the foundation to be something great. Are you doing vocal warm ups before singing? If done properly, those will go a long way to reducing the nasally part. And, the obligatory "sing from the gut" generic singer advice, helps as well.

Not saying you need this, but really for anyone trying to sing:

1. If you're trying to cover another singer, watch videos of that singer, paying particular attention to how they move their mouth/face and mimic those movements to better achieve their nuances
2. Stand up straight/don't hunch over. Breath from the diaphragm without ever lifting or dropping your shoulders. The only part of your torso that should move is your gut.
3, Keep your vocal chords seriously hydrated. Pushing air across them in powerful bursts robs them of moisture. As does smoking and drinking anything other than water (particularly tea and alcohol).
4. Don't think while singing, feel instead. Music is the sound of emotion, let that drive what you're doing, not heavy concentration or critical thinking during a performance.

Here's my latest finished just a bit ago. I've really dug this tune since the '80s.

Still trying to find my voice a bit. Let me know what you guys think.

:dood:
Great job, nice rendition.

I tried everything you said ... I'm sticking to shower singing, I sound best there.

I did a retake based on some suggestions. If you'd like to re-listen, cool, if not ...cool - thanks for the first time if you did. (y)
Definite improvement.
I’d like to reinforce something that @Iron1 mentioned above….hydrate…hydrate…hydrate. Water is super good for extending mileage from your vocals. A habit that I wish I was better about, but I typically remember for recording sessions and gigs…just not band practice…. …but we never get together anymore anyway.
