Reaper or Audacity?

This is what I tell my Techs when they call for support, "Step 1: RTFM"

I use Reaper for my recordings. I use less than 1% of what it does, but it's easy for me. I've tried several options, and Reaper was the easiest for me to set up and get going. I rarely record, maybe once every six months or so, which makes it a new experience every time since I don't remember how to get things going right away. Regardless, I'm usually up and running in 5 minutes.
Agree. Fairly easy to use. Threw a track in last night. Track sucks…. But that isn’t Reapers fault. :rolf:

I finally got my micro studio built. Some pics of the new stuff..

Had an old Dell laptop with 8GB memory and a 120 GB SS drive. That should be plenty.

Had this rack laying around for years with a Tascam mixer in it.

New mic and stand to top it off.

Omicron delayed finishing it but now that I'm 100% I'm looking forward to getting some stuff recorded.

Dude!!! That Tascam IS an interface! A pretty cool looking one to boot!
Upon reading about it, it is a bit on the older side…but lots of available inputs…not sure about current windows drivers.
The presonus is plenty for solo projects…but the Tascam has enough inputs to mic a drum kit.
Congratulations!

The latest Windows drivers are from 2016, so I don't know if they will work with Windows 10. But I love experimenting.

Even if it doesn't work, you're right, it looks cool. The PreSonus will do the job and more. This is my first foray into recording so it will be an adventure.

Good stuff! Now get to recording and stop wasting time with all of us slackers.
I'm late to this thread. I've been using Reaper for years.

My first DAW experience was with Audacity. If I wasn't bald I'd have pulled all my hair out. Hated it. Switched to GarageBand and then Reaper, then back to GB. Reaper, for what I do at least, is light years better that Audacity. Far easier to understand, more intuitive, no latency issues (screw you Audacity) and so much more.

I use Audacity for recording loopback (just like recording fwith a radio/casssette deck as a kid) and editing audio files. It doesn't use ASIO drivers, so the latency on Windoze is about 30ms.
