I don’t understand why the blues has to be played by black musicians. Not trying to be political but for me music is colour blind.43 straight minutes of white-guy blues-wank might make me want to rip off my aloha shirt and jump off a bridge.

I hear where you are coming from but I have to disagree. Anyone who tries to make music and has the balls to do it in public gets no disrespect from me. Yes, some of it is atrocious but at least they are trying. I’d rather listen to bad live music than any kind of of canned music. This is a pet peeve of mine. Sorry if I come on strong about it.Well, it doesn't and there are some very fine blues musicians of all backgrounds. When I say white-guy blues, I mean the kind of "blues" you hear being played at the local sports bar/restaurant during Sunday brunch by middle aged guys in Hawaiian shirts (why do they always have Tommy Bahama on? Always!). It's basically one long set of Mustang Sally, and no offense to middle age white guys, because I happen to be one, but they tend to be the only ones in the place enjoying it.

We definitely disagree on the blues. I could listen to the blues all day and not get tired of itThe point we can most certainly agree on is that when people put themselves out there in a live performance they should be encouraged and applauded.
Where we will never I suppose is that when people do it I have always felt that the lowest common denominator approach of tired, simple Blues songs is not only lacking any sort of challenge but is just plain boring for the listener. I really, actually (and of course personally) would prefer a canned soundtrack or jukebox to yet another cover of one or another Blues standards.
