Paul Di'Anno Iron Maiden

Paul Di’Anno, Iron Maiden’s lead singer on its first two albums, has died, according to a statement from his label on behalf of his family. No cause of death was announced but he had been struggling with illness for several years; he was 66.
Di’Anno was Iron Maiden’s lead singer from 1978 through 1981, and sang on the group’s self-titled debut album and its iconic follow-up, “Killers.” He was replaced by Bruce Dickinson, who has remained the band’s singer ever since.
In the years afterward, Di’Anno fronted the bands Battlezone and Killers, and released several solo albums. He suffered from health issues in recent years but still managed to perform more than 100 concerts .

Very sad to hear of his passing , I had seen Paul with the Killers tour, at the Swing Auditorium.
And that was when I became a big fan of the band.
R.I.P. Paul
Like a lot of people, I came in thru the Bruce Dickinson door but actually, it was when he had rejoined the band with Adrian Smith. But it was then, becoming a fan, I decided to go back thru their entire catalog up to that point ( so 20 years worth of material) and of course, there's the first two albums and though the vocals are indeed much different, it was sorry for the pun : Killer

Paul had that attitude. Real street level, almost thuggish swagger to him and Maiden in that era, were fierce as hell. That were stepping in from what Priest had already been starting and then going somewhere different with it. A big part of their sound was Paul's raspy voice but he could soar in those high notes too like on Killers.

I'll miss the guy

Yes, "Iron Maiden" and "Killers" represent the true original essence of Iron Maiden. Straight from Punk, branching into the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. I like to think of "Ides of March" as the perfect intro to Paul's killer voice and attitude as he lets loose with "Wrathchild". And "Maiden Japan"... what can I say? In my top ten of live rock recordings, right up there with JP's "Unleashed in The East", Rush's "Exit Stage Left" and UFO's "Strangers In The Night". Rest In Power, Paul...

Much like I feel for the music and the men who have written and performed the soundtracks of my life, Deep Purple, Rush, Zep, Priest etc, Maiden has a major spot.
Paul Di'Anno's voice and spirit will live on, every time I listen to the Irons.

This is how I first saw Paul and will always remember him. Thank you brother.

And a fine mashup which I never saw until today.
