I have never listened to a Queen song all the way through. The music and vocals just never grabbed me.

Today, I heard "we will rock you" all the way though. I did not find it interesting, except for one line which sounded like "you got mud on your face - big disgrace - sprayin your batter all over the place..."

Got me thinking about Freddie and wondering if "mud" had a double meaning....

Did I hear that passage correctly????

Wow, to never hear an entire Queen song...Sad!!

Believe me, I completely understand to each his own when it comes to music. But damn, Brian May is an incredible guitarist. Queen isn't for everyone for sure, but they are damn artists.

I don't listen to queen now, and frankly some songs I hate. But they have some songs that rock my world. I'm glad I didn't miss out on it.

When I was a little kid, and my usual bus driver was out, Tick Ward would pick us up on Bus #2 for school....And he would crank We Will Rock You! I loved it. Great memories.

Im not sure about the mud on your face reference, but if you can make it past the two minute Mark on Dragon attack, you'll hear some mother f'n kick ass riffs that rock. (Imo)

I’m pretty sure the passage is - “you got mud on your face, big disgrace, somebody better put you back into your place” but I like your inventiveness Robert!!

As a teenager we used to have competitions to see who could come up with the best double entendre lyrics to Queen songs. Always good fun but I’m not going to put any I can remember here :)

I’m going to recommend Tie Your Mother Down to you Robert. The guitar tone in that track is something to behold. Vox magnificence :dood:

Queen are deliberately over the top and I can get that they aren’t for everyone but damn there is some fantastic guitar, drum and vocal gems in there.

Oh, and listening to it through You Tube is a waste. Loud through a decent stereo and on vinyl if you can.

I’ll never understand how anybody can not like Queen. Over the top, yes, but in the best possible way ever. Great musicianship, great vocals and great tunes.

Brian May is a wizard with his AC30 and delay. Never really a flashy guitarist, but incredibly melodic and tasteful.

And Roger Taylor never gets enough cred for his backing vocals.

In short, Queen is a fantastic band.

I thought it was impossible to watch the video to I Want To Break Free without grinning at the sheer lunacy of it. The musical quality is just a bonus.

When I was a student I shared a flat with one of my biddies from highschool. He was always blasting «I Want to Break Free» on the stereo when vacuuming.

«We Will Rock You» just might be the most boring song Queen ever did. If you want something rockin’ try «Keep Yourself Alive» for a start.

Love Queen.
I discovered them around 1977 when a friend gave me a couple of 8 track tapes he hated.
Yep, they were Queen, his brother gave them to him because he disliked them as well.

I always gravitated towards more interesting music than what was playing on local Wisconsin radio.
Zappa, Rush, Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Al DiMeola, UFO, Queen, ELP, Captian Beyond, and the good ol Alice Cooper band.

Still like the same things, but my tastes have broadened considerably.

Cool memories! I've heard the 'we will rock you' and 'we are the champions' played as a "chant," but never the entire song in its entirety. May's solo saved the song. I was disappointed he didn't get to play a longer solo.

Dude! We used to do the same thing! Sometimes by accident. Fir example, in AC/DC's 'Love Hungry Man,' the line where Bon says "Animal Appetite," I had always thought was "An I wanna love that's tight," which I guess really is the same thing.... :-)

I havd some hearing loss and having a conversation is like a game of "sounds like" so to speak...

A friend of mine thougt the line «All we are saying is give peace a chance» from the Beatles song went «Oh, we are sailing, and give Jesus pants» when he was a kid. Not having English as your first language can lead to quite a few interesting misinterpretations.

I totally get that!!!!

The Norwegian comedian/actor/medical doctor/tv personality Trond-Viggo Torgersen recorded a song about the problems of understanding English back in 1979. The song is actually really cool (has an Elton John vibe to it, some of Norway’s best rock musicians at the time played on it). The tune is called «Hjalmar». Hjalmar was a kid in fourth grade who wanted to become a rock star. He thought he sounded like Elton John, but he was actually just singing gibberish. The chorus is just nonsensical «words», like how a Norwegian kid would pretend to speak English before actually having learned anything. It was originally recorded for a childrens’ album, but it became a big hit. In my student days we used to blast the song at full volume at parties. Here's a clip of the song being performed on tv in 1979. The guy ain't no singer, but he is funny as hell. At least if you speak Norwegian...:D

On the other end of things, I have never understood the appeal of Queen. I'm 51, so this is a band that should have been front and center for me during the development of my music appreciation, especially as a rock fan, but I just never liked them and really still don't. Saw them live once and they put on a killer show but the records just leave me scratching my head. And I know I am in a distinct minority here but I can't stand May's tone. Nasally, ill-defined and mushy in my opinion. Diff'rent strokes I guess.
