Odd sounding amp

One resistor looks like a chunk missing, maybe hit with a soldering iron?
"Whoa alert!" Soldering iron had no business in that area. I've seen blown resistors that look just like that. Test each end of that resistor for any voltage drop when amp is on? Test for any resistance measurement while amp is off?

I am totally guessing as why it has that chip in it. It's at the shop now.

UPDATE - First service shop won't touch Peavey. I took this amp to another service guy amd they do not know. Not worth chasing every solder joint. Parts are next to impossible to get for Peavey here and that is why local dealer stopped dealing with them. When they did they used to get service parts ONCE A YEAR from Peavey! Even had an email to Roger Crimm from PV service but no response, just in case this was a known problem.
Good news is seller is taking amp back for a refund. Also I will not consider another Peavey amp, period. Not with this. They cannot be serviced here amd why take that chance? It is unfortunate.

Honestly, I think virtually everyone considers Peavey amps disposable. Apparently even Peavey themselves.
Long gone are the days when they were solid, reliable, practically indestructible amps.

Sorry it didn't work out, might look into a DSL20HR? No built in boost though.

shame--- Ive had great luck with OLD peavey stuff......

the VK20MH is working out well also-- but Im a bedroom hack player not a pro-- so the "demand" on the equipment is Minimal at best

I really just wanted a small amp for the jam space that was tube rather than the Katana and that extra gain/ volume boost means no pedals. Realistically I have more than enough amps to cover that ground. I had one of the first series of Valve King and liked it so thought it would be good to have another again.
Not so much apparently.

My 6505 MH and 6505+ combo will suffice for Peavey. So far so good.
