New quilter amp day, I have a Weir Poorboy guitar on order. I’m getting setup for playing live when it becomes possible. I have two amps I could use but I’m looking for light weight and portability. A Quilter 101 Reverb arrived today. Love it already. The guitar should ship in three of four weeks. Now I’m looking for a lightweight cab, possibly a 1x10. The quilter sounds great through my 1x12 cab but it’s too big and heavy. For now I’m running into a Focusrite i2i to see how it records. There is no cab sim so I’m looking for a cab sim plugin for Reaper.58251A1F-547C-4729-82B6-542C044F456E.jpeg

I've recorded some sound samples so I have a baseline for recording with different guitars. The limiter is a circuit that acts sort of like a compressor. It is used to control the gain.

Clean amp with Gain 25%, Limiter 40%, Bass 60%. Mid 50%, Treble 70%, Reverb 40%

Vantage VP795: humbucker mode: neck, both, bridge, coil split mode: neck, middle, bridge, both out of phase

Epiphone Swingster Gretsch mode: neck, both, bridge, Humbucker mode: neck, both, bridge

Gibson SG special: neck, both, treble

Dirty amp: Gain 90%, Bass 50%, Mid 60%, Treble80%, Reverb off, Limiter off, Limiter 50%, Limiter 100%

You can ignore the amp sim parts, but Reaper has an IR loader in stock....Rea Verb...can be used for cab sim IR loading. If you need/want to try out any of the ancient IR samples in my old library, feel free to shoot me a PM and I’ll dig them out for you(I bumped in to the backups for them recently).

That is excellent. Thanks. I played around with the Amplion 2 Essentials package and turned off everything except the cab. It is very similar to what he was doing with Rea Verb except it is an all graphical interface. You can pick one or two cabs with various cabs and various mics and positions. It will take some experimenting. Do you use the headphone out or the send from the f/x loop? The headphone gives me some volume control but I think the send may be cleaner.

Then there’s this too....
Yeah. I have half a dozen amp sim plugins. They are the way to go. I was using the Quilter just to see what is was like. I think I prefer the sims for recording. The Quilter is night and day better through a real speaker. I have a 1x12 with an Emminence P50E and a Traynor combo with a Celestion greenback. The Quilter sounds great with the Emminence. Haven’t tried the Celestion yet. I need an extension cable. The cable from the speaker to the amp is too short to go anywhere but the amp. For recording the Quilter I’ll probably mic the speaker instead of direct in.

Agreed.

Almost always my personal preference. Even if my end result is less than perfect, it’s always closer to the sound that I’m hearing while I’m playing. The Kemper, I’ve been flailing around with lately, seems to be my exception.

Whats that under focusrite? Eq?

Wava viva, mind blowing!
It’s 100 solid state watts. The master volume is marked in watts and goes to 50 because that is a comparable tube amp. 100 watts SS = 50 watts tube. With a 1x12 I can’t get it up to the 10 watt mark at home. I should have no problem playing live. The limiter is very cool. It makes the typical SS gain sound more tube like.

Spent some time with the amp on headphones. I can’t turn it up loud enough with a cab to get a feel for what it’ll be like live. This amp can go real loud with a 1x12. I tried it very clean and loud with a Way Huge Green Rhino (tube screamer with several adjustable parameters). It sounded very good. The limiter on the amp works to tame pedals as well as the amp’s gain. I really like the mid control. Noon is flat. Anticlockwise from there is a mid scoop. Clockwise is a mid boost. Playing with the the gain, limiter, and mid boost found a huge range of tones and they were all good. Some were better than others but I couldn’t find a bad tone. The amp seems to like the volume at noon or higher which is way too loud for home use. I can’t wait to try this amp live.

Does anyone have any experience with the Quilter 1x10 cabs? They have a closed and open back version.
