Trifecta Complete with the JoeMeek 6Q..maybe one of the most neglected thing in tone..is capturing it...mic & pre will have as much to do with your tone as your amp & guitar does. I have wasted years..

The Gap Pre73 MKiii is the Neve style.this thing is a gem for the $$..getting results clearer than the studio

JoeMeek 6q has that Optical compressor that warms...What a quirky story he was when i read about his endeavors in the 60's

DBXs is the SS tight type-polar opposite to those 2 but when you take the time to use dif mics & dif parts of the room with the dif type of pre's ..that is the mojo in the recordings we so revere 6q (2).jpg6qc (3).jpg

I really wanted one of those JoeMeek jobs when they first came out! Good score!

Next you’ll be telling us that you picked up some FMR stuff! (RNP, RNC, RNLA etc...look them up  )
was trying to pull off 3 classic sounds at a reasonable price.. we did vocals today on all 3..wow..the 6q is sick man..i mean dial in to where we couldnt tell what was in the headphone or the vocals coming out the mouth..then used its optical compresser & it sure did put a lil edge on her voice...then we ran the GAP 73 opposite then the DBX down the middle..with 4 dif mic;s//holy smokes..its so real, like the mix is in your head spaced right..or the vocals seem like you are there vs inside the speaker..it..alive !! its alive !!

phew....just finished first ever attempt at studio recording..71 tracks are in Reaper....ready to tackle..no effects at all on em..vocals are down middle nice & recorded guitar lines in stereo but messed with dif mics's & pre combos..

transition seem to be something i noticed has been missing in studio sessions..worked hard on drum rolls & notes fading into next progression..in key/theme but not same note

I am totally unfamiliar with these preamp things. Looks like I need to do some research.
after all these years..couple lil boxes revealed my tone in my head..or basically captures all the effort into setting up my tone..finally..finally can capture it.. has lit me up this last few weeks...have my first effort all but ready to release,,have 4 new songs out of nowhere cause of the inspiration..sorta my way vs studio stuff ..lil more strumming ..layering..gain is down..then when gain goes up..it seems to be more dynamic..but using the least hot set up ever cause of nort wanting it hurt the tone...from a perspective of a guitar player..i landed on these pre's to record my guitar the way it comes out the speaker & to capture the singer very detailed..

the pre's seleced where to cover old school Neve-warm..tons of clean gain...then a SS basically digi modern, then an old school pre with optical compressor whichs make my clean guitar a lil dirty without having to gain up...was tring to extract my guitar tone vs so much fizz..makes for an easier platform to ride vocals on..
