No Barre Chords.

Most vocalists who play and sing at the same time, usually use the simple chords. It just makes sense.
Some chords and progressions cannot be done that way. Most rock bands use whatever chords and types that fit.
Watch Rik Emmett.
Minor 13th chords and such yet singing like no other.
I rarely play open chords, depending on the song and tonality I want. Some songs need em for sure

I guess an example.
Triumph Lay It On the Line.
Chorus is F, G Am.
Play the F using root basic high strings and it is ringy and high endy. Needs to be heavy and using lowest 3 strings, same with the G. Slide it up. It sounds awful using basic root chords.
And on it goes.

Even when I fret full barre chords I rarely strum full barre chords. Acoustics, different story. I play a lot of open chords, especially on the twelve string.
Yep. I only had an acoustic from 73-2007 when I bought my first electric. And yes. On the acoustic. Lots of open chords and barre chords. Some of that has carried over to playing the electric.
