New Instructor

[Session 5]

Well as some of you know a week ago, I said goodbye to my Instructor. Had my first meeting with the New guy today. We hit it off good gave him a quick rundown about where I was at and where I wanted to go. He was attentive to what I was saying. We sat down he handed me his guitar, I didn't bring one as it was the first visit I wanted to speak with him first before going any further. I told him I like to sing and play, so we took one of the songs in my repertoire and he told me sing and play. He told me you need a Coach more than an Instructor. He said to me you can sing. So to start out he told me to bring 10 songs. We went over one of the songs today and continue til we get it down. Total different attitude than the other guy. He told me we are going to have to get you out to open mic night. Hey Smitty was it you that was saying if you were going to take lessons you would need more of a Coach than an Instructor? I believe this guy will help me to become a better player all the way around.

That sounds like good news Blues Session 5. It's important to have the right instructor. After a few good lessons you will be able to pick up some babes.

The guy I went to try out didn't seem to listen to what I wanted. He started telling me how he teaches "The Caged System"...It may be a good system, but
you have to listen to me and see if it's what I want...I never went back...

You have to have a rapport with a teacher. It sounds like you do. I agree that getting out to open mic's will make you improve very fast. The fear of failing will make you practice like you wouldn't believe. At least it does for me.
