Took a trip to day to add another Blackhand cabinet to the mix. This one is slightly oversized to give me something different.
I'm going to put one Weber Grey Wolf, and one WGS Veteran 30 in each of my two 2x12's so I can mic up each speaker and test them out. I'd like to see if either speaker likes the larger or smaller volume of boxes. I like the small boxes personally.
My attempt to make things "flexible" and allow for options of mic'ing up speakers failed miserably. LOL
In each cab I put in (1) Weber Grey Wolf, and (1) WGS Veteran 30. The larger new cab sounded incredible. It was smooth, good low end but not boomy, and a clear top end without being harsh. Then I plugged into the smaller cab.
The smaller cab was harsh, mid-range focused and absolutely ZERO low end. I thought it was out of phase so I checked that and it wasn't. I know that the two Veteran 30's in the smaller cab didn't sound right to me when I had that setup before, so I ended up moving the (2) Grey Wolf's to the smaller cab and the Veteran 30's into the larger cab.
There it was. Both cabs have their own distinct sounds and they both sound really good to me. I think the Grey Wolfs have more of a bottom end than the Veterans so it helps with the smaller cab. The larger cab helps the Veterans to breath a little and smooths out the mid-range honk.
I have a couple of new SM57's coming soon and then I can start setting each cab up permanently.
