Many have already done the mod without any ill effects. The mod entails dropping the cathode (?) bias resistance from 470 Ohms to 235 Ohms (Parallel 470 Ohm resistors) to bias the EL34 or 6L6 into the sweet spot. Some have put this resistor on a switch to allow switchable power tube options. Then, to better match the OT impedance, an 8 Ohm speaker can be used on the 16 Ohm OT tap.

I plan on doing this mod, in addition to a variable boost volume mod and the addition of a switchable “distortion” channel.
