NAD KTN-50

Katana Version 2 Update Now Available - BOSS U.S. Blog

Looks like the older ones can be brought up to version 2 specs with a download update.

Cool stuff
Yes, the version 2 software update was released in October I think? All the new ones made after that had the updated software installed but you can also update the previous amps to the new software as well, which is awesome as it adds some new behind the scenes programmability but also doubles the number of available preset slots so the 50 now has 4 and the 100’s have 8.
The downside is that there were some bugs in version 2 so even though mine shipped with the update I had to still install the updated update!
Luckily it all went smoothly and it is running well.
Just wrapped up a headphone session which was pretty impressive. MASSIVE tones to be had through the cans and I’ve also saved a distorted tone that I’m waiting to try out tomorrow night for Hit Me With Your Best Shot and Go Your Own Way with my cover band. Looking forward to hearing what it sounds like coming from the speaker.

I like the idea of downloading fixes for backs, hips, knees, etc. I’ll take a version 2 knee download any time it becomes available thanks!!!

Congrats!! on your new amp 83 blazer.
Cheers Session 5.

I rarely turn my amps on at home, so having the ability to use headphones will almost be worth the purchase price itself. My previous headphone options have been connecting an USB audio interface to my computer and firing up GarageBand or using an old Korg multi effects pedal which was pretty uninspiring.

If I plugged in headphones to my DSL40C It would kill me at my usual volume settings...

Funny, my Mark 5 is the opposite - when I use 'phones I have to turn it up much higher than I ever do through a speaker cab. I think the CabClone is soaking up a lot of volume dissipating the power from the amps output stage.

Played the KTN-50 through the speaker for the first time last night and I’m pretty happy with it!
The clean tone had a tendency to be a bit dark sounding (it’s cerrainly no AC15) but with a bit of fine tuning I got it sounding pretty good for what I needed. What I did like was the slightly raspy clean tone which I could hit hard and get it to be overdriven by setting the SGs controls for each pickup and then switching depending on the sound I needed. Then I could kick in the clean boost pedal and send it into sweet sustain.
Then I also had a fuzz to give it a different flavor. Lots of fun.
I’m pretty sure that I will mostly live in the on the edge clean tone/driven crunch channel space.
Looks like a fun journey ahead
