AmbassaDOOM of Red VVinter
Started a new job back in April and found out in August my boss is a drummer. He used to play metal (like me) but hasn't had anyone to play metal with in decades, so now he mainly plays rock and country stuff - cause that's what his neighbor and a few of his family members he jams with play. Well, he got excited and asked me to come jam with him. But, all I had was a 20 watt Jet City head, and Marshall DSL1, and modelers that don't go far without power amps.
So, I decided it was new amp time. After researching and asking friends, I landed on the Peavey 6505+ combo. Love the 6505+ tones, and figured I couldn't go wrong with one for what I play.
After looking around locally for a few days, I got a line on a 6505+. The guy who owns it is like an hour away from here. He told me Thursday he was going to a buddy’s house today who lives like ten minutes north of me and he’d drop by with the amp on the way.
Yesterday I reach out to see when he’s coming by and his story changes. He’s not going to his buddy’s place, but he’ll bring the amp anyway - for a $50 delivery fee. So, I asked “well, then, will you take $50 off if I come get it from you?”
He didn’t reply for awhile, then randomly asked me if I had any gear to trade. Showed him a few things I’m looking to move on from and never heard from him again.
Then, I found another local guy with a 6505+ combo. He wanted to trade right off for whatever, but everything I showed him was “too metal” for him.
Then offered him $400 for the amp, figuring we could haggle and he stopped responding.
So I kept looking.
Then I widened my search to just “musical instruments” on Marketplace and this came up.
The guy was super cool, gave it to me for $260 and met me half way between his place and mine, which saved me about 45 minutes of drive time. It's so clean it's like a brand new amp - which is nice after seeing so many nasty, dirty amps on Marketplace (one guy had one with a spiderweb with spider in it - in the speaker cavity - and used that picture to brag about the speaker...).
Got it home, fired it up and it’s identical to my JCA22h, but gets a LOT louder. Now, I’ll probably sell the 22h and keep this beast. It sounds even better when I add in my Mesa clone cab.
And, as these things go, the second guy popped back up right after I bought this and said “I’ll do $450 for the amp (the 6505+ combo)” then like 2 minutes later he pinged me again before I had a chance to reply with “I’ll take $400”… tempted to see if he wants a JCA22H in trade…
