More Controversy....

I've been using pretty cheap guitar to amp cables...maybe the $20 ones...my VOX has been giving me fits with hum and funny intermittent noises...

...so I just bought a Royal Humpy 18' cable from Cutthroat audio for $110.00 which was 40% off:eek:

I am not a huge believer in these high end cables, but man this thing has cleared up all my noise!

I love it and it has a silent plug on the guitar end that cuts off the signal when changing guitars...

Cables are very important. Your sound is delivered to the amp by them, after all...

I hate tripping over cables. When they made advances in battery life (we have been waiting long enough) I wil consider wireless. They seem to have done a great job with the latency issues.

I got a couple of real cheapies that work ok but wont last.

I got a couple little better Musician Gear ones that are ok,
and a couple Kirlin ones I like.
All cheap but not bottom barrel.
Work fine.
Cold day in hell will be when my playing benefits from $110. cable.
Maybe your input jack needs attention instead.
Deox it and reflow the solder joints.

George L's here. They're a PIA because they are not very slinky, but they make a noticeable difference in sounds.

I have a bunch of Fender cables that I bought years ago and they are "good." Two years ago, I got a deal on a 20' GoPro. I paid retail for the second one. For recording, the difference is quite noticeable. Live through a 4x10 enclosure, it's dramatic. My SG Classic had tones I didn't know about before. I think the 20' goes for around $50. I also have a Planet Waves cable that is very quiet and sturdy.

I use the el cheapo cables from GC. I have never had an audience member complain of hum or noise.

I have not sprung for the expensive stuff yet, but I do like the planet waves classic!

You know I have no audience...but I am the audience and it just drives me crazy and makes me want to quit playing when I have noise issues.

I Love what the cable has done for me and it was worth every dollar. It will most likely last my lifetime because it is sturdy as hell!

In 1974 I bought 100' of Belden 8410 and a bunch of Switchcraft plugs, sat
down with my wire cutter, wire stripper, soldering iron and a roll of solder.
Every one of those cables still works just fine thank you.

That Belden looks like stuff we make antenna cables from. Isn't a little stiff for a guitar cable?

Never had a problem with it.
It lays flat and you can coil up a 10 footer small
enough to fit in the compartment of an SG case.

I have recently switched to Lava cables though.
They seem better for some intangible reason.

(The Beldens still work though.)

No way I'm shelling out $100 for a cable, but if you heard it fix your problem right before your eyes then that's what matters. I wonder if exchanging the old cord for a new one (same type) might have made the same difference. Noise just comes from bad shielding. Maybe one of the solder joints weren't great.
Who knows?
Who cares?
It sounds like you got a great cable!

You do make a good point. It is a delicate balance to get rid of noise. Some people swear by power conditioners (which can get quite expensive) to solve this problem, some update tubes often, sheild the guitar cavity, stay away from floresent lights or various forms of RF avoidance. It is not an easy things. So yeah, if you got it, keep it!!!!

I've got a PP2 and Planet Waves (or some equivalent) cords and my rig is pretty quiet, but I don't play high gain. I get some noise through my Strat, but no more than you'd expect. It's really only noticeable with modulation, especially trem.
