I'm currently recovering from a severe cold.

While I'm grounded and have the entire nights without anything good I can do besides reading and watching TV, I was taking some time to re-watch iconic music festivals, such as Woodstock, Isle of Wight, California Jam and Monterey Pop.

And man...

This was it.

I got all emotional over the footage. I had seen it before, years ago, of course, But it hit me like a damned sledgehammer in the face.

Jefferson Airplane (damn, Grace was H O T!), Jimi, The Association, Scott McKenzie, they rocked the heck out of that place.

I wand a f***in' DeLorean powered with plutonium!

Speaking of which, My 1973-74 band used to do Somebody to Love.
At the end I used to play my own outro solo. One day I said to myself,
"I use a Twin reverb and an ES 355. Lemmie see what I can do here."
First I found the exact sound on the record, then I figured out the outro.
The next job I nailed it perfectly! I was very pleased with myself until
after the set when Barbara (our Grace) asked me what went wrong at
the end of the song. She liked what I did better then "all that noise".

ya you betcha... AND I noticed what I take to be a rudimentary stage monitor in front
of Gracie in the above video... and no monitors in front of the guitarists, or Marty Balin,
or the Bassist (my idol) Jack Cassady... those guys could probably hear themselves
in front of their amps. I love looking at old videos like this, and listening to what we
can hear of the tones from the old guitars.

The Jefferson Airplane was a gigging band... they were tight and well prepared in every
video I've seen. I never got to see them live, so it's fun to watch these videos later
and remember when I was twenty and they were one of my (many) inspirations.

I hope you feel better soon.

Never saw them but I did see Jefferson Starship a couple of times. Craig Chaquico was playing guitar when I saw them. He was amazing.
