Marshall Amps shocker

How is the JMD-1 anyways?
Y'know, it sounds good, really good. I have no use for a whole raft of tones maybe 3 or 4 so lots of it is a waste.

My peeves - I HATE presets. Hate 'em. If there is ever a change needed on the fly, as soon as one moves any of the controls, the preset then reverts to wherever the current panel settings are. Which likely won't match where the preset so it's like starting over.
One would have to be very certain of the presets.
The fx are cool, but to use the noise gate takes up the Modulation effect so you almost have to use effects anyways. I kinda wanted to leave it at our jamspace but can't trust it there. So not sure if I am even keeping it. I have a JVM410, the TC100 Mesa and the BluGuitar pedal too so lots of ways of getting good tones that seem... easier...?
Very good amp though. Just not entirely my thing it seems currently.

Good business decision IMO. They know it's all over and are getting out at the perfect time, I'd say.
The writing is on the wall.
Great run, reality is boutique has taken the lead.

I say this because on the forum name saked for the amp so many Freidmans are prevailing its amazing.

I could see that being a hassle then. I mean unless you adjusted the presets to being nearly identical, then you'd be dealing with a big sound change. But then again if they were all dialed in nearly the same, kinda defeats the purpose of having the option doesn't it? And it's crazy they laid the Noise gate into the modulation effect section robbing you of that option. Really should have been its own control and section.

Does seem like a cool amp though still, as they almost flipped the script over the old Valve state designs: using valved power amps and digital preamps vs solid state power and valved preamps

Well one can set a clean and 2 solos for example. The rest of the time use regular panel settings.
But I decide on the fly at a gig to add some gain to the solo channel 2.. then what? My regular panel prolly won't match it.
Setting it at home may well be different than at venue.
Thus my desire to use it in the same place all the time.,
One can add a noise gate for sure. But... adding pedals then why the effects? In theory it is a very good idea and may well work super for some people.

They've also long held a small foothold in the digital market with the JMP-1 Preamp, the JFX-1 processor and even the more recent JMD-1 amp that is valved power but with an internal digital preamp and FX unit ( @Jethro Rocker has one in fact)

The JFX-1 isn’t really a competitive processor, though. It came out in 1995 - 28 years ago - and was just a multi-effects unit. It wasn’t a full-featured modeler. It featured no amp or cabinet models.

I’d like to see them go at it for real. I’d like to see them try for a Helix or Axe FX type of system, at a minimum. A floor-based processor would be ideal. But, to be a real player, they would have to have very good models of competing amp brands, like Fender, Roland, Mesa, Soldano, Vox, just to name a few.

But, I don’t really think that will happen.

In our local area, we are one of three bands that I am aware of who don’t use physical amps on stage. We use processors. There may be others. But, the trend toward processors will only grow. I’m at the point now where using an actual amp and pedal board on stage would be a real nuisance.
