Damn. Lucky that tree was there to save you. Was your bike all the way at the bottom of the hill?

I was in a near-fatal car crash in '89, driving back from a show in Philadelphia. Woke up in the hospital two days later - after things became a bit less foggy and I realized where I was, I asked the nurse, "Did they save my guitar?" She answered, "Well, they found part of it." She opened the drawer of the bedside table and took out a splintered headstock.

Luckily I'd lent my own car to my Mom for a week when hers broke down. Driving the tiny Civic I had at the time, I would not have survived. Rented a full-size Chevy for the trip and also paid the extra $ for full collision insurance. Don't know exactly what prompted that; never did it before and haven't done it since. I'd also left my amp home and agreed to use the backline at the show. If there had been an amp in the back of that Chevy I would've been pulped.
Funny you should ask. When the chain broke and I started sliding, I laid the bike on it's left side trying to slow it down and I was gonna push back before going over the edge. After leaving the pavement onto the dirt the bike flipped over to the right side with me on it. The bike stayed on top of the hill and I flew over like Superman.

Is your middle name "Lucky"?

Actually---- it got to the point (Im not kidding) my Mother had a coffee mug at the Emergency room & ---Teachers and fellow students--- would place BETS on "how long this summer will it take for him to break something" ---The last summer break between JR and Senior year-- they gave me 30 days ----
I broke a wrist in a motorcycle accident less than 36 hours after school let out.....(damn gravel got me) .......spent every summer (and several winters and ---falls---and springs----) in a cast of some sort--Ironically -- I was not "weak boned" or frail -- in fact I had very strong bones---and teeth-- which the doctor commented several times -- hairline fractures and other things would have shattered other kids bones---guess I felt "invincible"

Way to much energy as a child------ and we LIVED outdoors-- playing sports-- riding dirt bikes and bicycles on trails and in the woods-- racing-- competing ----WHO CAN JUMP THE FURTHEST......etc etc all the things the current crop of youngans will never know as they sit glued to screens---
sure was fun-----went way to damn fast......HA! -- maybe if I had slowed down I wouldnt have done so much damage?
